Hi,

I am new to installing custom ROM. I have a HTC EVO 4G sprint unlocked. I use MTS as my service provider. I have a doubt, that when I install custom ROM whether the phone again will get locked to sprint or the unlocked status continue? KIndly clairfy.

Hi mundu...I'd glad you found AF and registered:D

The process of flashing roms will not re-lock ot unroot your phone. By saying n your phone is unlocked it means that you basically have direct access to the android system of your phone and flashing roms is for most of us the benefit we enjoy the most.

If you need more help in the process let us know.

Hi biker57,

Thank you for your quick reply. sorry that I have not clarified my point. By locked I meant it is locked for Sprint net work but it is onlocked to accept any cdma network. What I wnat to know is if I install custom ROMS, whether the phone gets locked to sprint again? I request you to clarify. Sorry If I have posted a silly question.

I forgot to tell that it is UIM based cdma phone and hence I could purchase MTS CDMA carrier UIM and use it in the phone. but if I update to ICS, will the MTS carrier work or will it lock again to sprint. KIndly clarify.

welcome to AF!!!!!!!!

no flashing roms will not re-lock it back to sprint. but it might break some things like mobile data (no 3g or 4g) or your sms and mms might not work as well.

i'm not too familiar with your carriers so i can't be of much help.

Thank you Mr.ocnbrze. Thank you for your kind reply. I will try to upgrade and see wjhat happens.

Hi, I tried to install amon ra recovery but the phone does not identify the recovery file. Should I format the card to ext2/3 or fat32 or ntfs is sufficient? or should I try cwm for the same?

  • what size card do you have?
  • are you naming the file correctly?
  • does your pc show or hides extensions? it needs to be PC36IMG.zip, if you pc shows extensions. if it hides extensions then it needs to be PC36IMG and no .zip.
  • are you placing it on the root of the sd card....no folder...top level of the card?
