Will an unlocked Galaxy Note work on Rogers in Canada?

Specs for the Note:

Network
HSPA+ up to 21Mbps 850/900/1900/2100
4G LTE
EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900

I have looked around and asked some experts on the subject and it would be compatible on Rogers (Canada) and AT&T (US).

Anyone else with info please post.

I purchased an unlocked one from Mobicity in Australia!

Anyone how fast it is on the AT&T network??

I hope it's not like 2G status.
 
From what I've read no, it doesn't have NFC, yet, there's thought it will when it comes to AT&T. You can use it on the AT&T network (that means on Rogers, too) at its full capacity, can't speak to Verizon, but you'll only get Edge on T-Mobile.

by full capacity, you mean LTE too?

Yes, please could someone verify this? I see some people posting it's 2G speeds only on AT&T, but from the stats I've been able to find:

Data Compatibility: 2100 MHz (Europe 3G Standard) , 850 / 1900 MHz (AT&T USA 3G)

It seems to me that it should work with AT&T 3G. It seems really weak to me that they would build this awesome tablet/phone hybrid and not have it be 3G compatible???
 
Just got done chatting with an AT&T rep and they once I said that this is an unlocked international device, they said it would only work on 2G with their network. I still don't understand this severe handicap...this fact alone makes this device not sufficient as a smartphone. I'm usually on wi-fi between home and work, but every time I'm out and about, 2G is not going to suffice.

The AT&T guy said it would need to be "AT&T branded" or a US phone to be compatible with 3G. Not sure what "US Phone" means exactly or if/when Samsung is going to release a US version of the Note. Guess I'll just have to go back to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus...sigh.

that's not true. i am using an i9100 with HSPA+ on AT&T

Well, according to the stats, the phone is not HSPA+, but it is HSDPA which is still 3G I believe.

I can't get a straight answer on this and don't want to spend $800 and then have to return it if it doesn't operate on AT&T 3G.

I saw this on Samsung's official Galaxy note page:

i made a thread about this 2 days ago, look at what a user told me

i was on the same boat as you, but related to LTE. i don't know why the hell samsung claims that this device has LTE. guess i'll stick to the only samsung LTE (skyrocket) phone for now, which I don't like at all

We've got 2 Galaxy Notes on ATT and they both show HSPA+. Bought from Amazon.com.

I am interested in seeing the experience with Rogers. Two issues, Rogers LTE is on the existing frequency, don't know if it is the 850 or 1900MHz, not the international standard 700MHz. I don't know if that matters as it is 'LTE enabled' - does that mean LTE on any supported frequency?

Secondly, Rogers is charging a premium for LTE, so even if your device is LTE capable, if you are not paying for it you don't get it. That implies that it is up in the air if you are paying for it but using an officially unsupported device.

I do hope the Note comes out on Rogers, if not, well, I will be changing.
 
I bought mine on Amazon as well, the seller said I could use it with Att or . T Mobile. Since I didn't want a contract,I went to Best Buy to check the sims cards to go of the two carriers and I chose T Mobile because everything was unlimited for $50.a month, data as well. First 10mb of data on 4g, really nice and fast, after that I got a message fromt mobile thaT I was on 2g. Not that painful to go online, to tell you the truth! I believe my note was meant for the German market, since it came set with German. Hope all this will be of some help!:-)

Just curious what speeds you are getting, I bought 2 notes in Hong Kong for my kids and get some connectivity, but A&Ts IMEI database does not recognize the IMEI and therefore they claim to not be able to add the correct 4G data plan SOC to the devices.

That announced is for Korean LTE Note and not for US. But for US, AT&T might release a LTE version soon, with S3 cpu instead for Exynox cpu thats are in international version. Since Exynox 4210 (1,4 Ghz / Mali 400 gpu) doesnt support LTE and US version will have S3 (1.5ghz cpu / adreno 220 gpu) instead that support LTE, like Koreans version. Exynox is better then S3 Snapdragon and the Koreans didnt like S3 and wanted a Exynox version instead. Since they know Exynox is better then S3 Snapdragon chipset.

Best I've gotten in New Haven, CT is 4.3 Mbps but it depends on the quality of the signal.
While this is much below the theoretical upper limit for 4G type networks (4G - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) it is pretty good for real world speeds (see here: 4G Wireless Speed Tests: Which Is Really the Fastest? | PCWorld).
