I just got a htc hero unlocked (t mobile) am on o2 when trying to set up google it wont let me set up my account . It says the sim is not set up for data and wont connect to google .I have set up internet and wifi settings , cheers .....simmy..

Your SIM is old school (or damaged) and needs to be updated with a new one from your Carrier ..

First of all check that you have the following set up correctly:

O2 Forum :: View topic - No 3G support for HTC HERO??!!!

I have an unlocked phone on O2 and this worked.

The other thing is that you have to set up Google on start up so unless you've entered the log in details on initial set up, you may need to factory reset the phone. In this case, if O2 doesn't automatically send you the APN settings make sure you are on a wireless network to allow you to sign on to Google.

Finally - make sure you have a 3G SIM...
