Help Unlocked or AT&T - another thread, diff questions...

artaqaf

Newbie
i didnt want to hijack the other very informative thread about this.

i currently have an iPhone 3gs and i'm grandfathered in for unlimited data.

i was planning on going in to AT&T tomorrow and pre-ordering the Note in person (apparently to order it online with our AT&T business account, you can somehow "mysteriously" lose your unlimited, grandfathered-in data plan...ridiculous...)

but after reading the great reviews on Amazon for this unlocked (international?) phone, i have learned that the AT&T version will have lost some features like the Home button (w/e that is). on the other hand, from what i've read, the Note that Amazon sells will not be LTE capable.

my questions are: is that last statement i made true? and if so, is LTE that much faster than 3G or 4G (i ASSume the unlocked Note can get 4G??)

and also, if i bought an unlocked Note now, might i "lose" my grandfathered-in unlimited data plan with AT&T?

what other things will the AT&T version of the Note NOT have that you folks with unlocked phones are now enjoying?

sorry if i am using any of the wrong terminology above...i am not that tech savvy.

much appreciated --- art.:)

If you get an unlocked one you will still keep your unlimited data plan as i have been, i have tested it on 4G LTE and it works like charm.

The ATT one gets all capacitive buttons (bascially 4 touch buttons) while the version that is international (which I have) has two touch and one hardware button.

This is ATT one, see 4 touch.

This is international. Center is the home button which is hardware.

I personally love it, I came from a phone with all touch buttons.

LTE really doesn't matter that much. You can pretty much just swap your current phone, change some settings, and never had to walk into the store to do the int'l one. I believe the Int'l does't get 4G but you have 3G and 3G+. Really don't need that much more than HSPA+ and it won't drain your battery as fast as LTE.

ATT has that NFC thing, but where I live NFC would be useless. NFC is near field communication. Basically add your card and swipe your hone at places that support it to buy w/e your buying.

Also you get updates from Samsung faster since it doesn't have to go through ATT.

Another difference is the CPU.

ATT has the qualcomm, which most people dislike. Int'l has the exqnos (spelling) one which is Samsung and people praise it. I haven't really used a qualcomm, well new one since I finally upgraded.

thanx for the info fellas!!

i am honestly too nervous to buy the intl version. i fear i would mess something up and AT&T would drop my grandfathered-in unlimited data...might be that i dont need to worry about that, but i am a noob to this sort of thing.

what i might do if i get the nerve and do more research is, in a few months do that Root thing and then i will get the updates as fast as yall with intl.

Are you sure that "unlocked" version is running on AT&T's LTE, and not 4G HSPA+?

Yeah I haven't read of anyone getting an international version with LTE (which would have to be the Korean model) and getting it to work on AT&T's LTE yet.

I can verify that AT&T does not take away unlimited data with the international version. I even took mine into my local AT&T store and all they had to do was change the type of phone on my data plan from a 3G one to a HSPA+ one...but I double checked and I do in fact still have my unlimited data. Technically, you don't have to even go to AT&T and fix this in their system, but I kept getting text messages from AT&T about it and it got annoying so I had them take care of it.

thanx to everyone for the informative replies!

i've decided to just pre-order a Note with AT&T simply to save $. if i had unlimited funds, i'd much prefer the original Note and not the AT&T version with the slower processor :-\
