Root Unlocking LG Ally

Hi,

I think the answers for my questions are in the forums, but i need help to guide me in the right path, so i don't brick my phone. I bought a Verizon LG Ally phone off of Ebay. I do not have Verizon service. I was using the Wi-Fi and all the apps, but i reset it to factory default. Now when i start the phone, it asks me to register the phone with Verizon which i cannot. I think i have to install custom ROM, but i cannot access phone's menu. I will using windows XP. What is mounting SD mean? Connect to phone or computer? Is rooting means unlocking? I am planning on using this phone with MetroPCS. Any help will be appreciated.

Theres no patch available for the radio so you wont be able to use it with MetroPCS sorry

can i just unlock it to use just a Wi-Fi device?

you dont need to unlock it to use it as just a wifi device as far as i knwo

You can bypass activation and get to the home screen without activating. To do so, at the activation screen hold the phone in portrait orientation and just tap each corner of the screen, one after another, starting with the upper left, then upper right, then lower right, then lower left.
