i bought a Tmobile G2 too and i live in China, my vendor gave me a unlock code he obtained from Tmobile for unlocking purposes. I assume you can ask the sales rep at the Tmobile where you bought the phone for this unlock code. They most probably will ask you for the IMEI series number of your G2, cause what i understand is each IMEI series number matches an unlock code.

Hope it helps.

I live in venezuela, bought my code through GSM Unlock Store :: Client's Area - Unlocking mobile phones With the lowest prices, paid with paypal, 20$ may be a little expensive, but I was in a hurry. Try there, worked for me

I followed this guide:How To: Gain Permanent Root and S-OFF on the T-Mobile G2 / HTC Vision | TheUnlockr and it worked perfectly, I stopped at the flashing ROM guide because of now I am not sure if I want to flash it until I can get my hands on Honeycomb somehow. It is very easy and explained very well. It only took me about 30 minutes with breaks from my toddlers.
