Root Unlocking Query

I just have one quick question that i've not managed to find an answer to here or on Google
if i contact t-mob and get them to unlock my mobile will that mean i move to a generic HTC firmware and enable me to get the OTA 2.2 update, or does it simply mean i can use any sim and it keeps all the t-mob branding?

i presume if it is the second option i'd have to root, which I'm not sure about doing as I quite like Sense....but i've not read up fully to see whats available as yet.

Unlocking is just sim lock. Means you could use any sim. You will still be branded

Debranding means you would flash a generic no branded rom that would receive an OTA update to 2.2 (or could go straight to 2.2) and still receive updates OTA

Rooting means gaining root access. You can go through a process and install custom roms, either with or without sense. Rooted roms do not receive OTA updates (or rather cannot insatll them).
