Help Unmount sd card

In the Storage option under settings, I see an option to unmount the SD card. I dont understand the purpose of it, as we ultimately have switch off the handset to eject the card.

Can someone please let me know its purpose?

I know the meaning of mounting and unmounting, which is explained in that thread.
I want to know what the purpose of the option in the settings when we ultimately have to switch off the S2 to eject the card.
Unmounting is used when we want to eject a card from a switched on phone, which is accessing the card at that time.

You have to unmount if you want to format the sdcard.
