This I guess is more of a rant than a complaint on my end but I figure I put my two cents in.

Some people don't realize the hardships, and time it takes to get root access to work on new phones being released. It gets real old when people are complaining they don't have root access. If you want root access go find it yourself. Don't go onto these forums and complain that there isn't root access. Usually on new phones it takes a while. I am not talking about this forum just a few others that I am part of I have seen this.

To gain root access takes talent to find. I congratulate every single programmer and developer that does this. I certainly can't do that.

Best example is I seen people complaining on a verizon thread that their s4 cant use custom roms other than those that are compatible with safe strap because of the locked bootloader. In my honest opinion I don't the bootloader will ever get unlocked on the s4.

STOP COMPLAINING. If you want root access on a new phone that came out weeks ago. It takes time.

Just my two cents.

its not a complain its just stating that S5 or any other phone may be the "best" just people don't realize that to gain root access takes a while it doesnt happen over night.

Complaining about complaining is still complaining in my book ;)

I definitely get the sentiment though. It seems like a lot of people just want everything handed to them, while in reality those things take time and effort to be created - if they're even possible at all. And just because one guy really really really really wants root for his No-Name OffBrand UltraTab doesn't mean that it will happen.

Ok guys i guess this is complaining in a way just had to put it out though that its amazing how people complain it takes to long.

If you want root access easily with no issues about locked bootloaders and stuff, buy the phone and don't get it from carriers.

I think by now, those who are rooters are generally smart enough to know whether or not a device will have that access before they purchase the phone. Case in point, Verizon branded phones have been more and more locked down the past couple years.
In the days of the OG Droid and Dinc, development and openness was a huge success and Verizon didn't realize it was an "issue".
When I moved to a Bionic, realized gaining root was a total hack and didn't have an unlocked bootloader.
With my S3, Gnex, and G2, root was basically a one-click process. The Droid was precarious, needed several apps, drivers and lots of time.

I just wouldn't buy a phone now until it had been around for a few months to see what kind of 3rd party development it has.
Being outside the US though there aren't many problems with bootloaders and if it's a popular phone, it will have dev support

I am the same way. I was big into rooting and flashing now its just getting old me lol. I guess i just been outflashed. I usually wait a few weeks to get a new phone. I dont understand why people just go out and get the next best phone when there probably going to come out with another in the next few months. Usually every 6 months seems to be the case.

I was a crack flasher in the days of my OG Droid. Now, with KK, and CM11, if it's stable, I'm cool with it. Dealing with TiBu and resetting up my phone just isn't something I do much of anymore cause it "just works". :)

Yeah I'm getting lazier at flashing but I'm on a 2012 "legacy" phone and when the next big Android version drops you can bet I'll be flashing at least 2ce a week :D

... I may or may not have flashed 4 Roms in the past 24 hours. :D

What can I say, development is rolling.

With that said, I won't buy a phone that I can't get root on. By now we know who the root friendly carriers and manufacturers are. Do your homework and there's no issue

Any rootable flagship is going to have a decent development scene, its just a matter of choosing a rootable carrier/flagship

I've flashed 3 ROMs this week on the brand new Oppo, and with the Gummy ROM nightlies, I could be flashing every night if I really wanted. And what's more, I finally got to see a real life boot-loop, right here on my own device. :D

Oh the good old boot loop. ;)
It's always nicer with a removable battery, but gotten by with the trusty button combo.

Yeh hold down power and volume-down gets back into recovery, it's easier than pulling batteries....LOL ...and then one spends a couple of hours trying to find out why the internal storage is read only. Just six days ago there was no ROMs for the Find 7a, now there's three to choose from....ah life on the bleeding edge.

To me root brings the phone to look and feel the way I want it and not be bloated and looking like someone elses phone. I did reroot my lg 2, but since the lg g3 will be coming out soon thats why I am debating on the edge program. I like the idea of possibly getting a new phone every year if I wanted to. Its more of a assurance for me that I will never be with out a phone if something happens. So lost because of the edge program because like I said before the rep said its the best deal, but I still dont see how it is. Your still paying for a phone either way. Yes its cheaper but still there being paid and I also like new phones but root is another thing I look at. If I get a new phone I like to root it and I was told that its best to keep the phone the way it is, and not change it because then you can return it.

I'm on my 4th rom tonight. This past month I don't know what's happened. I'd guess it stems from something CM have done. Nothing is reliable enough lately.
Omni is the best I've found tonight but no theme engine.
Sorry for the thread hijack but are any teams using Omni as a Base but adding a theme engine.

A big thing I need to realise is that my phone is 2yrs old now and maintainers have upgraded and the s3 is an afterthought.
Maybe I should just go straight up CM

Have you tried Gummy ROM? That's what I'm using at moment on my Oppo. Seems to be reliable, and has the theme engine as well.

Hav a feeling they don't build for i9300 bro. Could you have a quick look if you have a link to their device page please?
Right now I'm about to flash Vanir

Apparently Gummy is built for your phone...

I've never heard of Vanir, although I suspect like Gummy, they're a group of devs that seek to do their own things with AOSP, and put in a lot of work with the devices that they know about. After all that's how Cyanogen started out.

I became aware of Gummy when they started a thread on the Oppo Forums, last Wednesday. Which is what I'm using now. Gummy doesn't have a proper website, and I couldn't find one for Vanir either. Presumably they're using XDA or G+ or FB or something.

Wow, haven't used Gummy in a LONG time (maybe the Droid?).
Have been on Beanstalk with my G2 for a while now. The only issue I find is I occasionally have a reboot upon hanging up phone calls. It's a pain, but with the few calls I make, it's not a big deal.

Yeah Team Vanir on g+.
It is excellent man! Might give gummy a go but Vanir on the international s3 with banks. Minimal Gapps and running in ART is a keeper mqn

IMO rooting isn't even worth it. I am a programmer and have absolutely no desire to gain root access. Its what my degree is in. The only interest I've ever had in it is the whole idea of rooting it seems a little fun. But when I realize most methods are "download this and this and click install" I am no longer excited. Call me weird but I realllly like the idea of post PC era. I don't even want to use a PC to help root. Ik there are a couple methods.. All the same idea. Download and click install... Meh. If that's all its going to be... I'll keep my warranty thank you...

I more or less agree with that, I have tended to root just to allow the use of ad-blocking and the like rather than to flash alternative ROMS as many do.

I'm not sure about relevance of the warranty bit here in the UK though. My stock (but rooted) Nexus 4 was killed by an OTA update in its last month of warranty yet was replaced by Google without any fuss after they were unable to resolve the problem over the phone. They were fully aware of the rooting, it had absolutely no effect on the warranty claim.

That said I left the replacement unrooted... I can live with the ads and in any case my most-used apps are paid versions anyway :-)
