Help Unread Message Problem

I'm having this really annoying problem which almost each of us may have encountered.
I deleted a message thread earlier and at the same time while I was doing the process I received a new message from the thread that I was deleting.
I successfully deleted the thread but the message notification still shows up.
I tried to click on the notification but it leads me to a blank message.
I refreshed my phone with hopes of having it removed.
I also refreshed my RAM and force closed the messaging app but nothing changed.
What should I do?
It's really bugging me.
Please help.

Hello tricia39heart. You're right, we've seen this posted from time to time. The remedy is to clear all data on the messaging app (all messaging apps if you have 3rd party ones installed) as well as cache, then shut down the device, wait a minute and power back up. You'll have to reconfigure, but the notification should be extinguished.
