Help Unregister

Okay picked up this Nook Color very reasonable second hand. It had the Nook Color 1.2 factory OS installed and came with a 8gb N2A card as well. I fired it up and updated to the 1.3 OS however when I try to register the unit it gives me an error that there is issues.

Needless to say after contacting customer service I found out that the serial number is associated with a different email and B&N account.

Long story short I have tried to contact the previous owner regarding this issue without any luck. I have read a ton of "unregister your Nook" kind of articles but almost all of them deal with 1.0.1 or 1.1 OS's. None of them work!

Is there any way that any of you know how to unregister this unit without contacting the previous owner? B&N will not, of course, do this! They keep telling me to contact the previous owner and get the account information or have him or her unregister the unit.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well for anyone that is looking to purchase a second hand Nook Color or any of the Nook tablets, be sure to check with the seller to ensure it is deregistered!!!!

I have spent several hours with Barnes and Noble customer support and there is nothing they can/will do until I actually have the original owners shipping address and the last four digits of the credit card that is on file at Barnes and Noble.

Naturally if I had that information I would have been able to contact the original owner and have him or her deregister the unit.

So, bottom line is this: If you purchase a Nook of any sort that is still registered and are unable to get the original owner to deregister the unit you cannot use that unit to log into your Barnes and Noble account! Your left with running modded software. Not really a bad thing, however if you want to have and use a B&N account your pretty much screwed!

If you have 8 consecutive failed boot attempts, the nook will reset itself to factory settings. Power off the nook, and then press the power button. As soon as the message "Read Forever" or "Welcome to the something something" (don't remember what it is now, and I'm far too lazy to look it up ) press and hold the power button to shut it off and interrupt the boot process. Repeat 7 more times (if you let it get past the boot screen to the animation you may have to start the process over). after the 8th failed boot attempt, the Nook Color will reinstall the System partition and you will see the "installing prompt. Let it finish and you will have a factory fresh nook.

that is correct, however that does not deregister the unit from Barnes and Noble. All that does is reset the software to the original 1.0.1, 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3 OS. It would then need to be registered as if one just took it out of the box. It will go through all the set up features and once to the register part it will not register due to the fact that the units serial number is attached to the original owner.

Trust me, I have tried this a couple of times. Hell I even flashed it back to the old 1.0.1 software which included deregistering when resetting. It of course will not deregister due to the lack of being able to log into the proper B&N account.

Sorry, I wasn't aware the units were tied to a hardware serial number. Would you be able to load CM7 on the unit and then just use the Nook App to get your books? It's not quite the same thing but it may be workable. Or is that what you meant by "modded software?"

Yea currently running a CM7 on a chip for "dual boot." I have the current NC operating system on with hopes of contacting the original owner LOL. The wife is the one that wishes to use the B&N stuff LOL. If it was up to me I would just install the CM7 and be done with it

Hell I find that the dual boot CM7 works great. Running the unit at 1.2ghz and everything is flying right along......I should just purchase her a new one and be done with it LOL.
