Help Unresponsive Keyboard in SMS until notification

derekp

Lurker
Hi:

I'm having an odd issue with incoming texts using the stock SMS app on my EVO 3D. The issue is that sometimes I'll see that I've received a text on the lock screen, but the phone hasn't vibrated or otherwise notified me yet. That seems to be a problem in and of itself, but it gets worse. When I go into the SMS app to reply, I can feel the haptic feedback and see the letters I've hit, but the cursor in the text entry box sits at the initial space and nothing is being accepted into it. After an annoying pause (up to seemingly 30 seconds) the phone will vibrate and the message will scroll on the notification bar, and then whatever I type from that point forward will finally be accepted.

Has anyone else experienced this? Hopefully my description of the issue makes sense. I'm reluctant to try Handscent again, because back in the 1.6 days I used it until it started randomly sending texts to people other than the ones I specified.

I should also mention that I really like SMS popup, but have disabled it during the troubleshooting process.

Thanks in advance.

On the plus side, you aren't crazy. I had this happen to me about a week after launch. It happened on and off for a couple days, then just stopped happening. I didn't do anything that I can think of that might have fixed it. I had forgotten all about it until I saw your post.

I don't know what to tell you, other than the general stuff. Try a battery pull, make sure your phone is updated, or factory reset. Or wait a couple of days and see if it stops.

May I ask for your credentials to make that assessment? ;)

Thanks, I've tried these. I was hoping there was something I was missing that might explain the lag between arrival, notification, and the ability to type. Come to think of it, I think I recall this happening on my HTC Magic as well.....just nowhere near as often. Thanks again.
