Root unrevoked rooting issues

Ajc

Newbie
I am rooting my htc desire, hboot 0.98 and for one am not sure i am using the right usb drivers for the device. i am simply following the directions on the unlockr.com for the highest htc desire root i think. i download the drivers fine regardless and reboot the system fine. but when i open up the unrevoked client and plug my phone in, it is never read. usb debugging is ticked on, and i even restart the client, but my phone is not read. ive installed htc sync and uninstalled it for the drivers, i dont have any other programs on my computer for my phone. i simply am confused on how it is not working. i have tried all other driver options on the unlockr website but when i try to install the latest drivers for my desire again for the third step or what not, it just says the current drivers are up to date, so i dont even know what the other drivers are for. but yeah anyways i could use some help because i am stumped and irritated.

Thanks I'll try it man.
But do I install these then update the desire or just install and run revoked?
EDIT: ah I've done this. Thats the problem, I've done every step correctly and my desire still is not read...

Doesn't work. Awesome my phone will never be rooted because I followed the steps exactly and have the right software but nothing works. Haha this is lame.

My friends don't use androids much less will let me root my phone on their comp... Idk what's wrong with mine.

Is it in Disk drive mode? If it is, does the desire prompt you to select mode? Just to confirm, you need to remove the prompt so it auto mounts the drive on connection.

Edit> Also try another USB port. Maybe even whilst at that message, pull the cable out and put it back in quickly.

There were 2 suggestions and a confirmation. can you confirm?

Also, try the same with charge only.

I'd be tempted to put it down to the PC.

My next suggestion would be to download a virtual machine (wmplayer for example) and install linux on it.

Fun times.
