Root Unrevoked3 root and now triangle exlamation with update

Ok guys, I've searched through countless pages looking for an answer to this question.

We just got my wifes EVO, and the only thing that we did was installed unrevoked3 on her phone so we could use tether on our trip. Unrevoked3 worked fine and so did the phone until last night. Her phone got a update notification from Sprint, and she obviously accepted the update, and it went to the triangle with exlamation with the green android guy.

I've searched through alot of posts trying to find the CURRENT fix for this. Should I run Titanium backup and back everything up right now while the phone is still working? As long as I don't do the update the EVO works fine. So what is my next step? Right now I have the superuser ICON, and it has Software version 2.2.

So what do I need to do in order to get this update? Do I have to get rid of unrevoked3? and if I do how do I go about doing that? Or is there a fix for how my wifes phone is setup now? I know the "There is a search button" is going to come up, but there are soooooo many posts and the dates on them are older....so I did try. If someone could just point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Also I'm pretty much a moron when it comes to this thing...hence going with unrevoked3....was pretty much idiot proof.

Thanks for helpin a noob out guys!

There are plenty of current post with this answer. If you update you will more than likely not be able to root again for the time being.

I am thinking she shouldn't have accepted the update.

Did you do a nandroid after rooting?

Hopefully someone who knows more than I will take a crack at it... I an trying to get my hands on the new beta... :)

Ok well either I can find them, or I don't really understand what is being said.
And as I stated above if I chose the button to do the update, the phone goes into the black screen with the triangle and exlamation with the android guy. At that point it doesn't do anything. It just sits on that screen.

So I pull the battery, and restart the phone. As long as I don't do the update the phone works fine. So what do I need to do to fix it? Do I removed unrevoked3? Or is there a FIX for this problem for people that have UNREVOKED3? So again I'm asking because I have looked to find the answer to this...i.e the search button. So if someone would be kind enough to just explain the CURRENT fix I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't understand how this happens. You should NEVER accept a silly OTA from sprint while rooted! I see it too often. I would say boot into hboot and try restoring one of your nandroid back ups.

The phone still works fine, because the update never was complete. It hung up on the exlamation and android guy screen. I only get that screen if I try and run the update. I'm doing a nandroid back up right now while I know the phone is still working correctly. But I haven't done one since we rooted the phone. This is the first one.

no no no...I'm doing a backup right now as we speak....not the update. I tried one time to do the update (which I didn't know I wasn't supposed to do)and it didn't work. So I quit trying and started looking on the internet and found these forums.

The update is the 3.70 update from sprint I guess.

Accepting the ota caused here to lose root, that is why you get the triangle when trying to get into recovery. So if I were you, find the new unrevoked beta and re root using that. Just remembrance though when you do re root, your previous nand back ups will not be compatible since the ota she accepted has a new hboot (2.10).

LOL...ok right now, the phone is rooted. I have the superuser icon, I can access recovery. I have also made a backup. Downloaded quickboot from the market so I could access and make a nanoid. So right now I have a backup, and the phone is still rooted with unrevoked3.

The phone works fine....calls, access the net, market...everything...I just keep getting promted to do the 3.70 update. Which is where this all started.

yesterday my wife noticed the prompt to do the 3.70 update and so she clicked "YES" to the update, and that's when she shortly got the black screen with the triangle, exlamation point and the little android guy.

So that's where I'm at right now. Again any advice would be greatly appreciated guys. And I'm sorry if this has been answered over and over again...I really did look and searched pages upon pages...

Well if you can still access recovery then the update most likely did not install. When you go under spout phone what software version does it say?

Haha that always happens to me... it was supposed to be about lol. My bad.

So yea the ota did not install since you are on sw 3.29. If you go into updates and click on htc software update, there is a check box. Uncheck it and the notifications will stop. Other than that you should be good to go!

you might be ok if it didn't finish the process. Do your nandroid back up and see if you're good! make sure you're still rooted after by downloading terminator emulator and typing "su" (without parenthesis) and hit enter. If you get a # sign you're still rooted.

ugh...\

menu.settings.system updates.htc software update.uncheck scheduled check

that MAY clear the update notification. it for sure prevents them from happening

since you didn't do a nandroid prior you may have to back up everything and start from scratch with a new rom. try the above steps and then let me know if you still get the update message

While you *technically* can accept an OTA while rooted (via unrevoked only), it's widely considered a bad idea. It requires removing your custom recovery, and (generally) updating hboot. Accepting an OTA that updates your hboot from the version that it was when you rooted can potentially cause some serious complications. Inevitably, every time there is an OTA, a bunch of people end up screwing up root, despite having s-off from unrevoked. It's not hard to just flash a rom with the new OTA along with radios.
