Root Unroot and install 'stock' 2.2?

I have a Droid with CM6 currently. I am thinking of giving the phone to my wife and getting a Droid X (unless someone here knows of a better phone)

If i do this, i think it would be best for her to have an unrooted Stock Droid.

I did this before with a Droid I had to send in:

but is there a 2.2 SBF to install? or do I need to install 2.1 then wait for the update?

just go to the guide to all things root related sticky at the top of the subforum and look for revert to stock. Click show and download the latest version of rsd lite, the current drivers for the droid, and the frg22d sbf. Once you have downloaded all of the files follow the instructions to revert back to stock. You will have a droid with the latest update.

I suggest waiting for the htc merge instead of the x or the incredible hd. Its not much of a wait longer. Should be coming out some time later this month or next month.

I would also suggest waiting. The Incredible HD looks good (provided Verizon doesn't tamper with it and install Bing or something stupid like they seem to like doing nowadays), but remember that LTE is being rolled out very soon, and that means you can probably expect about half a dozen phones unveiled at CES around the first week of 2011.

I know my upgrade is sitting there, waiting for a 4.3" phone with a physical keyboard. Please, HTC? Be nice to me.

I was going to get her a Ally but with the 2.1 Cell standby bug, she will not deal with it well

I also have a bad taste for HTC after having an Eris and it dropped calls constantly

Yeah, you could use her upgrade right now to get a new phone on her line, swap your Droid with her for the new phone, and then she can get a new new phone with the upgrade in August and swap for the phone you just got if you please.

HTC phones are generally regarded as being some of the best. Motorola is honestly a crap company; the Droid was a "mistake" and by mistake, I mean that they didn't lock it down the way they're locking down all of their current lineup. I'm certainly not buying Motorola again, but Samsung is looking great lately with their Galaxy S lineup.

The Eris was low-tier junk to begin with, honestly. It was end-of-life hardware when it came out. The Ally is also low-end, but we're in an era where low-end hardware and Android doesn't necessarily equate to a painful experience. Two friends of mine have the Ally and seem happy enough with them.

Right Ally is low end too, I figured that.. I like my Droid, happy with it and run it at stock speeds.. Since she would like a phone for Christmas, I thought the Droid I have would be a better phone then the Ally, I want the Highest resolution phone I can with battery life AS good or better then my Droid.. I like the 4.3" screen or bigger then the 3.7

I figure I could swap twice once now and then next year at this time. Either way what I get today it old junk tomorrow, only reason I am looking now is that my wife wants something.. I feel she need something better then low end though..

As for Motorola, yeah they changed from when I was there 8-9 years ago

If you don't care about a physical keyboard, sure, give her the Droid and get the Incredible HD or Droid X. Droid X is the best choice right now, but considering people love the Incredible so much as it is, the Incredible HD should be even better! Whatever you pick should be great. Phones are at a standstill right now; it's not like pre-N1 days when every phone had jitters. All high-end phones will run Android seamlessly. The big issue now to me is how open a company is to rooting, because that will allow root to be attained faster. Motorola has proven over and over again that the Droid was a slip-up and they want to be oppressive to their user base. On the other hand, the only HTC phone I can remember that was tough to get root on was the Eris.

I'm gonna hold out for CES 2011 because I know there will be half a dozen great phones announced there for LTE. I know there's always something else great 3 months down the line, but you can't get many more options than "hey, we just released LTE and are putting a bunch of great phones out there (and also the iPhone 4, unfortunately)."

Yeah, LTE would be nice.. being that VZW does the 2 year for a phone and my wife has had hers for 3 years, I think the D1 going to her is the plan, then I get a newer Android.. then in a year (aug) I get another if I want.

I need to go look at them again and I can wait until the Dinc HD is released too..

I was reading on the Fascinate as well, but I am not thrilled with Bing on them.

Guess I will wait and see..

Upgrades don't stack like that though. It's 2 years from the time of the last upgrade on that line.

EDIT: Never mind that last sentence, didn't realize the August upgrade date was on your line, not hers.

Yeah, I see nothing good about the Fascinate. Smaller screen and weaker processor than the Droid X/Incredible HD? Unless for some reason you feel like 3.7" (Droid 2) is too small and 4.3" (DX/Inc HD) is too big. Personally, I'd love to see even a 4.5" phone, cause the 5" Dell Streak just isn't pocketable.

Yeah i think if I did something in the next week it would be the DX.. if I wait a month maybe the Inc HD.. only thing is everything is unknown on the Inc HD.. Battery life, etc

I read about the GPS issue with the X not sure if that was 2.1 or 2.2 but I keep GPS off on my D1 most of the time..
