Root Unroot HTC Desire without GUI and with USB debugging disabled

Hello Friends,

My HTC screen is cracked somehow suddenly. It only shows white lines on the black screen. I have rooted my phone with Unrevoked. Now, I have roll backed my ROM to the ROM that came with my phone, but the phone is still rooted. I want to unroot my phone as I want to avail the one year warranty. I know how to run RUU in HTC Sync, but as my screen is cracked, I can't see a thing on my phone.

I can probably use Dalvik Debugger to view my screen, but the main problem is that my Phone's USB debugging is disabled. Is there any way to enable the USB debugging on my phone with a script or any command that I can run after connecting my phone to my PC? I am sure once I enable USB debugging, I will be able to unroot my phone.

Or is there any other ready to run application that will unroot my phone in one go without using my Phone's GUI.

Thanks in advance.
Snehal

You can boot into fastboot (hold back and press power to turn on). Wait about 10 seconds then plug the USB in. Wait another 10 and run the RUU.

USB debugging is only whilst android is running, but this method will RUU without running android.

I will try it out and update you. Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

This doesn't work. After showing "Verifying information on your Android phone. Please wait..." for a while it shows "ERROR [170]: USB CONNECTION ERROR". I have connected my phone through USB and it shows Android 1.0 connected in Devices.

Please suggest any other way.

Thanks,
Snehal

You can only use a PB99IMG.zip then. Needs to be on root of sd card and boot into hboot to pick it up. Only problem here is you'll never know if its successful.

What software version are you trying to flash?

I am trying to roll back to "32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27".

Thanks. So you are using 2.29.405.5.

Theres a PB899IMG.zip in the toolbox thread (see my signature earlier). Download that, rename it PB99IMG.zip (exactly, capital letters, everything) and put it on the root of your SD card with a card reader.

Put the SD card in and boot to hboot (Vol down + Power). This should boot to hboot. 7 Seconds later, it should look for the PB99IMG.zip and flash the ROM.

Since your screen doesn't work, you wont know if its done or not. I guess give it an hour and see if you can call it. If not reboot and see if you can call it.

Make sure theres plenty of power in your battery

I am trying to do the same thing with an RUU called "O2-Froyo-RUU-htc-desire-software", but get the USB connection error 170 -- in Android as well as in Fastboot. Could you perhaps point me to the appropriate PB99IMG file? Many thanks in advance!

If I can use the rom.zip file out of my PC's temp folder when the RUU is started, then I just found the correct PB99IMG.zip. If not, I'd still appreciate hints. :)

It's in the Useful downloads folder in his signature...

Here you go anyway, the PB99IMG file link:

Might be a couple of decades late looking at the last post in this thread...But in case it helps anyone..was facing the same problem...
Changed the following things
1) Disabled Anti Virus(reading from another thread)
2) Downloaded and uninstalled HTC Sync
3) Ran from Fastboot USB RUU with following name
(again from SURoots guide)
RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe

This combination worked for me (don't have any logical explanation but check and it may work)
