Root Unroot info?

offanairplane

Android Enthusiast
I am wanting to put my corporate email on my Incredible, and they say that you can do this for any Android 2.2 (or higher) phone, (rooted phones not allowed).

First, how would they know if I was rooted or not?

Second, if in fact I really can't be rooted, how do I get my phone completely back to stock from where it is now (rooted and running OMGB)?

Thanks so much for any help!

Edit:
Sorry for wasting your time. I found the proper thread now.

Well, I take that back now.

I am trying to follow this thread:
http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/181255-how-downgrade-official-2-2-a.html

But it has an additional step for folks who used Unrevoked to root their Incredible.

I used Unrevoked (3.0 I believe).

And I want my phone just like it came out of the box brand new.
Unrooted, factory ROM, factory Recovery, etc.

I take that back, I don't mind it being the current updated factory ROM. I just want it to be completely stock in other words.

I downloaded the file PB31IMG.zip from that thread.
I am under the impression that this file is just the stock ROM.
So after I wipe and flash this ROM, I will still be rooted, correct?

If so, what do I do next?
The other site that thread referenced for Unrevoked tells you basically how to install the factory recovery, but it doesn't offer a link for downloading the file. Where can I get that?

And once I flash the factory ROM, and the factory Recovery, is that it?
Is there anything else I need to do to get completely back to stock?

If you flash *just* that PB31IMG.zip file you will be unrooted, but still have an unlocked bootloader. You need to flash the s-on file first (then do the PB31IMG.zip) if you want to be completely 100% stock.

The PB31IMG.zip file includes the stock recovery.

If you want to be stock and still rooted, you just need to download a stock ROM and flash like any other in clockwork.

I guess that is where I am getting confused.

If I flash the s-on file first, how will I be able to flash the PB31IMG.zip file afterward? Won't I lose the ability to flash roms once I have S-on?

I guess I don't actually flash the PB31IMB.zip file, but install it like an update. But can I still do that from the bootloader if I've turned S-on?

Everytime I open up the bootloader it asks me if I want to install an update, and I tell it no.
So obviously there is an update on my phone right now. Do I need to delete it? After I get back to stock would I want to run that update?

The 2.2 PB31IMG.zip from that link is a signed update from HTC so in can be installed in hboot with s-on.

Basically just follow the process in the link and you'll be 100% stock unrooted.

Should I backup and wipe my SD card of everything other than the update file prior to doing this? There is nothing on there that is crucial, and all the apps would just recreate their necessary folders when I reinstall them right?

Don't have to, but wouldn't hurt.

Just finished doing this.

I am completely back to the Stock Rom with S-On once again.

Everything went off without a hitch!

Thanks for your help.
