Root Unrooted (I think) still wont take updates from sprint

Hey guys,

So I went through and un rooted my phone, atleast I think I did. I ran into a little issue with the PC36IMG file saying that it was bad while I was in clockmod recovery.

First off is there a solution to my phone telling me the file was bad?

The weird thing is that it did in fact reset my phone and so now it appears to be back to stock but when I go and try to perform updates it will run for about 5 seconds and then I get the triangle with the exclamation mark inside of it.

Any ideas?

I have an HVO 4g.

My H-boot is 0.93

Radio 2.15.00.07.28

Kernel: 2.6.32.15-g74614f0
htc-kernel@and18-2 #58

Software: 3.26.651.6

I want to go back to stock because my speaker is blown on my phone and I wanted to see if sprint could hook me up with a new phone or a fix for it. ALso I just don't know enough about rooting to keep it rooted and just want to go back to stock.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The PC36IMG file is flashed in hboot. The bootloader automatically scans for that file name when you go into it. Did you flash the s-on tool yet? If so, make sure the PC36IMG file is named exactly that and on the root (top level, not in a folder) of your sdcard. Power off then hold volume down+power. It will scan for the file, tell it to flash the file and you should be good. You need to have flashed the s-on tool from recovery first though.

Do you have s-on right now?

My s-on says that it is on. However when I go to the white screen by holding down power and vol down the only options I have are
fast boot
recovery
clear storage
simlock
hboot usb

Where do I go from there for bootloader?

I have been trying to flash it from recovery mode by searching my sd card and finding the file. Is that the wrong way to do it?

What am I missing?

That is the screen for the bootloader. Make sure the file is named exactly PC36IMG. Windows hides extensions so don't put .zip after it when renaming it. Reboot to that screen and it should scan for that file.
It needs to be flashed from the bootloader(hboot screen) as it will replace your custom recovery with the stock one and reload the phone like it was new out of the box

Sounds like the file is named incorrectly. If its named right, it will prompt you to install it automatically when you enter hboot.

Check what the file is named in windows. Try removing the .zip extension in windows if you see it. By default, windows hides file extensions, so you may have a file named PC36IMG.zip.zip right now, which would be the problem.

Ok this all sounds simple enough. I guess my next question would be where do I locate the file on my sdcard.....and just to say you guys are awesome for everything and the quick responses.

Download this file: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
Rename it only PC36IMG.
Place it on the root(top level, not in a folder) of your sdcard.
Power off, then reboot to the hboot screen.
It should scan and find the file if named correctly.
Tell it to flash the file and you should be all set when its done.

Dude thanks so much.....I'm sorry for being dumb about all this....thats why I want to just go back to stock. I have it running right now and its running like a dream. after all this is done, do I need to do a factory reset or anything?

And also once this is done, all the software updates and such from sprint should just go through correct?

Thanks again!

Your phone should be just like new out of the box. You can try and run the updates. They should go through. Check your software and baseband version in settings>about phone> software before you run the updates then after to see if they changed

Rooting is actually very simple and easy to do/use once you learn the ropes. The rooting guide and the Quick Intro to Rooting are both very good, informative threads to read to learn
