Root Unrooting for speaker replacement

Xtremedays

Android Expert
I need to take my Evo in for speaker replacement. I have the UnrEVOked splash screen and Fresh 3.5.0.1 installed with the Fresh boot animation. My question is, will the unrooting instructions in Rooting for Dummies put me back to the stock rom even if I dont use the s-on tool? They should have no reason to check hboot when they do the repair but they will likely notice the changes to the boot screens when they turn it back on. I just want to make sure it clears the changes and would like to just be able to do a nandroid restore to get back where I am now without rerooting.

1) You must flash the s-on tool first. While they might not check in hboot if you have s-off, you never know. Not only that, but flashing those PC36IMG files with the unrevoked method of s-off will most likely not work correctly.

2) The boot screen will be reverted back as part of flashing the PC36IMG.

3) To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure if flashing the PC36IMG will change your splash screen back or not. I'm sure there are a few sources out there that have the stock one. Here's one available from calkulin over at xda. It's attached to the second post:

[ ROM / 1-5 ] Calkulin's EViO 2 v1.7.6a [ 3.70 l Undervolted l Battery Saver script ] - xda-developers

You may as well take the extra two minutes to flash that beforehand just in case.

Thanks for the quick response. Guess I have a little reading and some flashing to do.

One other question. My hboot is .93 and the oldest one listed in the Rooting for Dummies thread is .97. Do you think that will present an issue?

Nope, it's not a problem at all, but it will upgrade your hboot version to 0.97. The only problem you would have is if you tried to flash one older than your hboot version. If you do happen to want the one for your hboot version, you can get it here:

Supersonic Shipped ROMs - xda-developers

You want the PC36IMG version for baseband 3.26.651.6, which you can find in that list. Flash it from hboot like you would any of the ones from the Rooting for Dummies thread.

Which speaker are you having problems with?

I am also having to get my EVO speaker replaced, This is actually the second time, first was the speaker phone speaker and now the earpiece speaker. I flashed the stock ROM and took mine in still rooted, figuring they wouldn't check it being as how it's a hardware issue. The Tech at the store wasn't in so the kid ordered me a new EVO... I told him i was not interested in a replacement just the repair so I am bringing it back in tomorrow to have a tech possibly repair the speakers (their going to replace the speaker phone one also from what he said... I dont know...)

I am having issues with the external speaker. It is blown. I actually called the repair center and asked if the root would void my insurance and they said no, only the warranty. In other words, they will repair the phone but not replace it. I am taking it in tonight as is for the speaker replacement.

Correction on the insurance.....they CAN revoke your insurance and call HTC to void your warranty if so desired. The tech that fixed my phone also has a rooted Evo with Unrevoked :)
