Root Unrooting process changed at all?

Superuser is an app that would have to be installed on your rom. Could it be that you installed the official w/root rom that was available?

I started with official 2.1, applied S-OFF, installed official 2.2, then rooted (Clockwork, payload-update, su-2.3.4-ef-signed). I actually didn't technically unroot....I restored to my original 2.1 backup (nandroid). Even after doing this and hard resetting, the icon remained. Still a bit baffled why it remained after a restore from a 2.1 backup. Having the Superuser icon was no big deal because I planned to reroot again anyway. The research I did suggested that Superuser should be removed before unrooting since the icon remains and it can't be removed because, naturally, system/app is inaccessible after unroot.

You know I have never actually installed super user by itself it was always pre installed on the roms I was using maybe that has something to do with it? I went s-on and installed 2.2 ruu, no signs of root left.

I might be wrong about this but if you're looking to unroot for the purpose of taking the phone to VZW for service (and getting rid of evidence that it had been rooted), shouldn't you uninstall Superuser Permissions before you unroot? I ask this because I unrooted and went back down to 2.1 to do some battery testing (wanted to see if 2.2 was causing my fast battery drain) and the Superuser Permissions icon remained even after loading 2.1 and doing hard resets. Once unrooted, the system would not let me remove the icon (and naturally the app would not load anymore because I was no longer rooted).

This is a valid concern - my superuser icon went away when I unrooted my 2.1 phone. Assuming you still have root, you can always ADB shell in and move the .apk to "hide" it :)
