Help Unusable while plugged in

Hai everyone :-)

So, this might be a n00b question, but here goes:

I bought my Atrix about a week ago. I have found that although I appreciate good battery life, I am using my phone constantly and needed to acquire a charger for work. So I went to AT&T and the sold me a Universal micro USB charger with cable.

So, I plug my phone into the cable, and it charges but then the phone stops responding to anything I do. It won't leave the lock screen until I unplug it ... and if I plug it in while it's unlocked on my home screen, the physical buttons don't respond and the icons/apps lag and basically make the phone unsuable.

Help? It's completely stupid this is happening; the charging cable and plug it came with allows me to use the phone and charge at the same time.
 
try a different cable. sounds like the one you have is bad. That or the charger is. Try swapping cables with the one that came with the Atrix. If it works, it's the other cable. If it doesn't, then your charger is bad.
 
I have had the exact same experience. With the Motorola charger I received with the phone and the Motorola charger I use in the car, no problem. If I use one of the "universal" chargers, it charges fine and the on/off button works, but the touchscreen does not respond.

It isn't the end of the world, but it is quite annoying.
 
Thanks for the suggestions. The morons at AT&T don't even have a Motorola-specific charger, so looks like I'm going to Motorola directly. Blah.
