Root Unwanted Apps and associated concerns

Thanks. I think between us, we're either making sense of this or making things up. I'm happy with either.

Edit>Although I cant make sense of rastaman's issue if we are 100% correct. Perhaps theres more to it? or its an isolated incident

Yeah, that puts a spanner in the simple interpretation.

It's hard enough to guess why some people see WiFi problems with a given ROM/radio combination and others not, but we can always assume some hardware variation. But the same phone behaving differently with 1.2 and 1.3+RIL patch is hard to fit into this picture.

Agreed. I think we just need to wait for an official answer now. All we can do is speculate.

And if the official answer is what we'd figured, add Rastaman's problem to the mysteries of RILs (and hope that a reflash fixes it)?

I am swaying towards that at the moment, because I haven't seen anyone else with the issue. it could just be an anomaly.

Or the RIL fix includes a bit more than an upgrade to the RIL, but still it would be an anomoly.

He's gone quiet and its not too late. Maybe he is flashing now?

Kind of want to wait and see what the answer is, but Im up at 6 :(

Oh well, we know what happened now.

I'm trying to remember what IB's findings were when he was flashing RILs a month or 3 back - I have the impression that some things weren't so easy to undo, but can't recall accurately.

Anyway, my alarm's set for 45 minutes after yours, so I can search a little longer ;)

I think it was Jack Nicolson that once said; "It never rains, but it does."

All desire's are not the same, can I put it to your that the problem is the same issue that come up with a value such as Quadrant. Remember that? Some phones do it, some phones don't.

Well I found what I remembered in this thread - that although the RIL should be replaced by a ROM flash, IB was finding problems persisting unless he was worked rather harder to clear it. That seemed odd, but so was Rastaman's experience tonight. There's things here we don't fully understand.

One consistent message I'm seeing from both our friends' experiences is "flash the RIL last" - don't expect updating a radio afterwards to fix things.

Another thing that I remember is that the latest .27 radio and its ril simply WONT work on my Desire, 3 - 5 minuits after a boot the signal stops being received and never comes back! I don't know if Orange UK has somefink to do with it, but I ave my suspicions.

Bit off subject from where this thread has got to, but just thought I'd mention that with a bit of SetCPU tweaking and that Kernal I mentioned a few posts back, seem to have drastically improved battery life.

First day after ROM flash, my battery was down to (I think) about 15% by 10pm.

At time of posting this 63%. :)

So thanks!

I'm in on my phone an I don't have the accuracy here but I'll get back to yous on this.
