Root Unwanted apps

sorry new to root, so if you delete apps, they will delete off the current ROM I am using, and if I delete the wrong app or whatever I'm fine since I have a NAND back-up?

can i just go in astro and delete apk's? They are easy enough to find... (figure probably smart to kill them first...)

First you must have root.
Then I recommend Root Explorer as a file manager to try that with.
Make sure you click the little button on the upper right hand side that says "Mount R/W" before you try to delete a file from anywhere but the sd card.
If it is mounted as "R/W" the little button will say "mount R/O" That is where you want it to be.

Don't forget your NAND!

This is a great thread (for me as a new rooter).

The, "and don't forget your NAND!" is worth the price of admission; you can fool around all you want and you've still got your system waiting to be restored as it was before the fooling around. ;)

Root Explorer is my method of removing unwanted apps now, after reading through this thread.

Thanks to all.

Frisco I didn't know you rooted!!! how do you like it? and what ROM you with? after all the ROMs I'm back to Ivans its great, and testing for 1.1

Senseable 3.1.

After the "official" ROM recommended in the original root instructions was on my device for several hours, I went ahead and flashed Evil Eris.

That ROM seemed ok, but something was lacking.. I'd installed SetCPU and learned a lot by taking increases in small steps, but something made me want to move on to another ROM.

I was fortunate; the Senseable 3.1 ROM seems to have more snap to it.. I'll remain on it for the foreseeable future, as I'm now using Root Explorer to pare out the things I don't need. ;)

Great to hear, sounds like myself, that is the first ROM I went to after first rooting. It's great once you figure out O/C and how to delete/install ROMs through root explorer/ADB. I was all about Sense-based ROMs at first. I then went to tainted. IC3 was my thing for a while because the white status bar. I finally landed back on Ivans like I said, I am back to the sense home today, I was using ADW and it's great, but I like using the track ball to move from home screen to home screen, but don't sell Vanilla ROMs short they are great!

The "no wipe" feature of Senseable 3 is what triggered my curiosity; I'd spent some time tweaking the heck out of Evil Eris and after the NAND was thinking that I'd probably just go back to it.

Well, something about Senseable 3 is just better on my phone.. not sure why yet, maybe it has something to do with the way the overclocking parameters are set; they are different than my settings were in EE.

Whatever it is I was startled to see the phone even faster than before.. so I don't see any reason to get another ROM.. for now anyway.

you may want to switch to Overclock Widget (less CPU load than SetCPU which takes up about 10%), Overclock Widget is far less and gets the same results. I recently discovered it and stopped using SetCPU.

I downloaded Root Explorer and it shows as "Android Mate". I don't even see the option to do the "Mount R/W". What am I not doing right? I'm a newbie at root, so please explain what steps I must do. Thank you.

i think you downloaded the wrong file

The app I downloaded from the market is free. Do I have the right app? If not, how much does the correct app cost? Thanks.

it seems no one is clear on what not to delete. one thing i do know is, dont delete any google stuff. and definitely make sure you do a titanium backup before you start. maybe even a nand backup
