Help Up time/awake time?

Can someone explain what these mean? I figured that Up time means how long it's been off the charger and awake times means how much it's been in use (actually using the phone for call, text, internet, etc...) My problem is that is not resetting the up time or awake time after I pull the phone off the charger. Is that what it should be doing, or do I not understand the Up Time/Awake time correctly?
Can someone please explain?

Up time is the time since last boot (reboot or power down/up)

Awake time is the time the phone is not idle (not just screen-on, but also syncing accounts/data)

If you want to see the amount of time off the charger, look in the battery use area. I believe it says "Time off charger" or "Time on battery"
