Tmo contact coming to an end in December and I am looking to change to ATT for better coverage. Can't stand Iphones, and from what I can tell Samsung are not that reliable. Currently have the original mytouch 3G, best phone I have owned so far, no issues at all with it. So, I would like to know if there is any info of a HTC phone coming with stats in par with Samsung galaxy S Series? I really like the Samsung but hear it is poorly made. I know that dell is offering it for $10 right now.

As of right now, there is no phone directly from AT&T. You can buy a phone with the same 3G bands get it unlocked. The Desire is available from Telus, they are selling it $450 off contract (but $600 from 3rd parties). If you are ever in Canada, or know somebody in Canada, maybe you could pick one up and have it sent here.

The only HTC phone available directly from AT&T is the Aria. It is pretty much a slight step up from your MyTouch (same screen size, same resolution, slightly faster processor, more RAM/ROM, 5MP camera, HTC Sense, FM radio).

What about HTC liberty? Manager at local Att store said that there is a Dell coming out that will be considered a tablet because of 6in screen. Those are the only ones i have heard about for 4Q 2010. So, if that is the case, Samsung or sony, which phone is better?

I THINK Liberty is the code name for Aria.

As far as Dell goes, there is a 5" Dell phone called the Streak which can be purchased for AT&T through Dell website for $300 on contract $550 off. It has pretty much the same specs as the Xperia X10 (Android 1.6, 1GHz Snapdragon, 512 megs ram, 800x480 screen)- Dell Streak Details | Dell,

Honestly, I would take the Captivate over both Streak/Xperia since Captivate does have 2.1 and will be getting 2.2 soon (while those two have 1.6 but will be getting 2.1 soon, Streak is rumored to get FroYo but no clue when). There is one problem with the Captivate being GPS issues but Samsung claims it is a software problem and will be fixed when 2.2 comes out (rumored to be September).

Best might be to wait (see if Captivate problems are fixed, perhaps something better will be released), it might not be a good idea to spend lots of money and lock yourself into a contract for a sub-par product. Or purchase a phone with compatible 3G bands elsewhere and get it unlocked (HTC Desire? Nexus One? Motorola Milestone? Motorola Sholes? Acer Liquid?).

Maybe put an AT&T sim into your MyTouch and use the EDGE network/WiFi until something worth it comes out.

Dell is offering the Samsung for $10, and Amazon for $0.01 for new accounts. Which is why I am considering the change early.

Maybe you should go with the Samsung. Specs wise, it probably is the best phone out there (fastest 1GHz processor, 4" Super AMOLED display. The thing is fully loaded).

See how bad these GPS problems are and whether or not they affect you.

You get a 30-day return policy and alot of rumors saying the 2.2 update with GPS fix is coming in September, if it doesn't come within the 30 days (or something you prefer comes within 30 days), you can return it.

Another thing, you can buy it for one penny, sell it on eBay for $500+ and get the Desire from Canada.

Considering Gps is off most of the time for my mytouch, I don't see it as an issue. Mostly use Iheart radio app, and orb. My home pc has tv tuner with cable and I can watch on phone with orb

Samsung Captivate is great if you dont rely on the GPS. With or without a speed hack, the phone is great (but so much better with an easily applied speed hack).

I would not get any Dell phone (thunder or streak) or the Xperia.

Yes. The Canadian Desire from Telus and Australian Desire from Telstra both have 850MHz/1900MHz 3G bands. You would have to get it unlocked but that shouldn't be too hard.

Well the phone itself costs CA$450 from Telus directly. But you would have to go to Canada to buy it (or find somebody in Canada to pick it up for you). Reading through here might help you with unlocking- http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/145561-unlocking-htc-desire-telus.html

These guys have it unlocked for $600- HTC Desire A8182 Android 2.1 850/1900 US/NA 3G (Unlocked)

thanks..

yep.. that is where i ordered me one ! it should be here some time this week..

sweet ! can't wait to use a good phone ! haha

Any Idea how I could possibly order the desire from louisiana? I have no trusted sources in canada and 150$ is a lot more..

Not that I can afford 450$ x.x

Does US Cellular operate in Louisiana? If so, you can get one from them. Tho US Cellular isn't strong nationwide and if you travel a lot, might not be a good idea.

they do not and even if they did the htc desire for them is CDMA which means I could not use my at&t sim card :(
