Upcoming Software Changes - Official

you must be reading someone else's tweets cuz i've never said I think it's real.

if you've got the update post a screenshot for us showing the about screen with the build number?

I'm not waiting for it. I'm running the stock android 1.5 from the galaxy on my wife's behold ii and i'm using a nexus one.

i'm just really annoyed by false info about android updates from t-mobile reps and the rumor mills they feed.

i'm also calm. :-)

Hmmm, you don't care about the update. Hmmmmmm, why would you be in a very specific thread talking about the upcoming update.

Oh, because you are a TROLL, go spam some other forum, we don't want you here! And to prove your lack of following this entire forum, even though you are running "stock" android, you still have the Behold kernel. So guess what Mr. Genius Troll, the update will help you, but you are too stubborn to understand.

Because the subject caught my eye because I hoped it would be an update to 1.6.

Oh, because you are a TROLL, go spam some other forum, we don't want you here!

I made perfectly valid points about the false information put out by T-Mobile reps. I wasn't looking to raise anyone's hackles here, i was complaining about misinformation from T-Mobile reps. Unless you're a T-Mobile rep you've got no reason to take it personally, so point your troll and spam accusations elsewhere mr. touchypants.

No one could possibly follow this entire forum unless they have no job and no life.

There's no such thing as a 'behold kernel'. The kernel is linux. And I'm not running a Behold II ROM, I'm running a stock android 1.5 Galaxy ROM, which you'd know about if you followed the entire forum as you for some reason want me to do. Read it: http://androidforums.com/samsung-behold-2/35487-galaxy-stock-android-behold-2-flies.html

Seems to me you're the one trolling here by calling me names, making false accusations and trying to piss me off. But I'm not pissed.

Show me proof of T-Mobile lied to you, and no bs, like a rep told you, I want hard evidence. And you called me a liar after I presented you hard proof that T-Mobile has released an update.

It's actually fairly easy to follow this forum, I just view all unread posts from my Behold 2 no less. A few minutes every day and you can learn a lot, especially if you sift few the spam posters.

And since you don't seem to get the concept of searching, AND calling some of the mods liars, I'm done with your bs. Go post on some other android forum since this isn't one of your top 5.

Ok no need to get all technical and feisty with each other. Like I mentioned in the OP, take it for what it's worth. I only posted for those who wanted at least some news from someone. Like I said, I could have made that all up, but that wasn't my intention.

But for the first time, I was actually working with someone who wasn't your typical TMobile rep/salesman. He was the store manager and knew a lot of geeky stuff with these phones. You can just tell when someone knows what they're talking about... he appeared to be that person. Not your typical rep.

But he wasn't far off. He said an initial update/fix was on the way very soon with 1.6 to follow shortly after. When that happens, I'll come back here to say I told you so. I hope. :)

What? Where did I say T-Mobile lied to me? I said
T-Mobile sales and CS reps have a solid history of being either misquoted, misinformed or just plain making sh*t up when it comes to updates for Android on devices on their network.
What's so controversial about that? It's common knowledge to anyone who has owned an Android device for longer than 6 months. Let me google that for you

And you called me a liar after I presented you hard proof that T-Mobile has released an update.
I called you a liar? Where and how did I call you or anyone here a liar? What are you tripping on?

It's actually fairly easy to follow this forum, I just view all unread posts from my Behold 2 no less. A few minutes every day and you can learn a lot, especially if you sift few the spam posters.
There've been over 200,000 posts to these forums. You're more awesomer than I if you've read them all and I have no interest in trying to be as cool as you if that's what you call cool.

And since you don't seem to get the concept of searching, AND calling some of the mods liars, I'm done with your bs. Go post on some other android forum since this isn't one of your top 5.
What the hell are you talking about? Try to search for the article you were trying to point me to in the search field above on this site. Go ahead, we'll wait... See, the forum search does not search phandroid.com. They're TWO DIFFERENT SITES under TWO DIFFERENT DOMAIN NAMES.

Again, where have I called anyone here a liar? I dunno who pissed in your wheaties this morning but stop taking it out on me.

For the record, Phandroid.com does happen to be one of the 5 sites I checked before posting. The post wasn't up yet (at least not via google reader) when I posted my post about not having seen any info about the update out there.

Claiming I called someone a liar doesn't make it true, but you're getting pretty close to making me want to call you that. But I wouldn't.

If you're referring to my comment "The Cake is a Lie" comment as me someone accusing someone here of being 'a liar' then allow me to help you become a better informed member of the internet culture: Let me google that for you

Now kindly find someone else to take out your bad day on. Good day to you sir.

Uh, you said there was no update, which I first posted about, then I proved your lie wrong.

Get over it, and go read up and learn the difference between a ROM and a kernel.

I'm really getting tired of this, and I'm sure everyone else reading this thread is too, but if you're going to keep maligning my character with your twisting of reality, I'm going to keep defending myself.

Uh, you said there was no update, which I first posted about, then I proved your lie wrong.
Your reading comprehension skills are incredibly poor. I said no such thing. I said I'd believe it when I see it. And when someone pointed out the post you were cryptically referring to I thanked them for pointing me to it.

You accused me of calling you and others liars, which anyone can plainly see I did not do, and now you're claiming my statement of opinion was a lie.

Get over it, and go read up and learn the difference between a ROM and a kernel.

There's nothing to get over. I'm just defending myself from your bizarre, absurd, unfounded personal attacks on me and my character.

And I suppose you're saying I need to learn the difference between a rom and a kernel because I pointed out to you that there is no such thing as a "behold kernel." There isn't.

The kernel is linux. 2.6.2.7 to be precise. The OS on the behold ii is a ROM built by samsung adding their software to the Android 1.5 OS (aka firmware) which is built on top of the linux kernal version 2.6.2.7. (Tip: the words in blue are links. click on them and learn.)

Just because you read a post where someone called a rom a kernel doesn't make it so.

Now go find someone else to accuse of things they didn't do or say and leave me the hell alone little boy.

Meanwhile, back on topic....

Did anyone else get the OTA update yet?

Nah according to that stupid and useless TMobile USA Twitter page, it could take a couple of days to reach everyone. But I also read on TMo News that its slated to span the 18th-25th. :(

kudos serveral. i would have lost it. you have the patience of a king. I agree on the fact that just because someone told you that fire hydrants are blue does not make them so.

No ota update yet. but im waiting. i've had the sd card unmount and mount a few times but once i took off the back of the phone, took out and put the sd card back in and secured it all FIRMLY, i have not had a problem.

What specifically does the update fix? i know the sdcard mount problem is one of them.

Nope, dangit.

I bet there's a lot less drama on, say, the Nexus One forum. Peace and love, people, we're all in this together...

Don't bet on it. If they're not arguing about cracked screens or 3G glitches, they're arguing about the superiority of multitouch over double tap ... LOL

:-) Thanks.

This image http://phandroid.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/otabehold2.jpg

Shows these high-level descriptions of what's fixed in it (all fixes to the samsung software and drivers from what I can tell/guess):

Accessories & Bluetooth
Device hardware (battery, keys, power, screen)
Media (album, music, pictures, ringtones)
Synchronization & Transfers
Messaging.

Doesn't sound worth going back to samsung rom from the galaxy stock rom to me (or to my wife and the behold is hers so it's her call. pun intended :-) )

edit: also this post has been updated with these tidbits:

  • Improved touch screen and dialer functions
  • Fix MMS, Messaging, and E-Mail issues
  • Improved battery function
  • New applications (Evernote, Where's Waldo, and Midnight Bowl 2)

I consider Evernote a must have app & if you root, you can delete the other apps.

Evernote may or may not be a great app, but it's a free download in the market, so I'm not sure the benefit of having it pre-installed and unremovable is all that great. As for the rest, I'd be willing to bet that the number of people who want to get rid of Diner Dash 2 is greater than the number of people who have/will root their phone.

What was that again I was saying about T-Mobile reps having a history of giving out incorrect info and about how we'll know the update is coming whe it starts arriving on phones and that I'll believe the update is coming when I see it?

Here we are 6 days into the update period the T-Mobile rep tweeted about and so far only one user on these forums claims to have received the update:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-behold-2/46747-post-here-if-you-received-ota-update.html

Is this the point when I get to say "I told you so" or should I wait until the 26th?

While I don't think the 26th everything will magically be pushed to the phone, I don't doubt the update seeing as the CLIQ just got it's update today that T-mobile promised.

And since the 1.6 official rom for the Galaxy was leaked, there is a very good chance that the 1.6 update is real as well.

two cents.

Ooo, 1.6 update for Behold II? Is there a more recent rumor than last summer's "when it becomes available" rumor?

I'm hoping that Galaxy 1.6 ROM will work on Behold II. I'd rather have it if it is stock android.

you won't get to say i told you so. users on other forums have received this update, not just me! just cause no one here in this small community got it besides me doesn't mean you won't

I believe you, honestly if you have to lie about getting an update, you have to be desperate.

Plus if you look on twitter, on the first page of a search, there are tons of people with the B2, that don't use this forum.

By far the best Behold 2 twitter post of all time!

So it's the 27th and clearly not all Behold II owner's with the original ROM on board got their updates. In fact from what I've seen on various forums (t-mobile's included) it looks to me like those who didn't get the update might very well outnumber those who got it.

like i said, you'll know when you're getting the update by seeing it on your phone, not by what any t-mobile rep says or posts.
