Help Update and restart error

I have a HTC Desire HD with software version 2.2
Im trying to update my phone (not sure what software version the update is to)
the update downloads fine, then when i try to install the update the phone resets and a loading bar comes up with the little SD loading symbol. Then at about 25% the loading bar stops and the phone error symbol with the explanation mark

any ideas on how i can fix this so i can update my phone?
 
Need some info first.

Is your phone rooted.
Where did you buy it, what network are you using.
Do you have enough space on your sd card.

Is your phone rooted and are you trying to get an OTA update? This could be your problem. Do you have the Superuser app in the app drawer?

When I click on the link, it appears not to be working.

What version of the software is on your phone? Are you running 2.1, 2.2, 2.3?

I was Orange branded and I rooted my phone... you will need a goldcard (in order to downgrade to a rootable version of Android) and then you will be able to use Visionary - it doesn't work on 2.3 (Gingerbread)... if you do want to root your phone, see this thread http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html which has links/explinations for everything.
 
Hi D-U-R-X. I'm on Android 2.2.1, software number 1.84.61.2. Not keen on rooting, but I will go for it if it's the only way to upgrade.

Apparently there is no update available now!

Rooting isn't the only way to upgrade... if you're not rooting, then you don't need visionary though!

As for the update... I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get it via Orange... it looks like you have had the update downloaded to your phone, but that it hasn't worked... I'm not an expert on this - you might wanna wait for someone who has a bit more knowledge on it to reply to you! :(
 
Orange weren't much help. No further forward after a factory reset. I eventually just bit the bullet and installed the latest LeeDroid ROM. Working fine!
 
yea im the same, my phone isnt rooted and i got it from orange, i dont have the super user app, running software version 2.2 and i still have plenty of space on my SD card (sorry for the late reply been on holiday)
