hi i have a generic tablet running android 2.3 when trying to update its saying its up to date is there any way i can update

Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely with a generic device that's still running an older version of Android like Gingerbread
.
If this is an older device then that would also decrease the possibility.
If it's a newer device, then it really should have been released with a much more recent version of Android (we're up to 6.0 right now).
I wish I had better news for you, but I don't want to get your hopes up.
