Update coming for Volume Issue

Have you tried the gps yet? lol you cant even hear it unless no one is talking and no radio...

AND, it won't go through a Bluetooth headset like my last phone. What's up with that?!?! At least that way, the driver can hear the directions!

Nope, I'll admit I haven't tried the GPS yet. I could definitely see that being a problem. You can use the AUX input so it uses your car's speakers though, right? (Assuming you have an AUX input). I'd think that'd make it plenty loud, no? If you don't have that capacity, though, then I guess you're out of luck and have to hope for a fix from Motorola.

The speaker placement is terrible. When using Navigation, the speaker is in the back facing away from the driver. It's not like you can have the speaker face you because you need to see the screen as well. I'm glad I have a stock Nav system build into my car otherwise using the GPS on the DX would be annoying.

My wife plugged the dx into one of those old cassette dvd player things, and the dx is great on it! When you get a call in the car, or are calling someone, the sound is perfect, and the mic pics up without any background noise at all.

We haven't used it for gps navigation, but I'm sure it'll be perfect with that setup.

Another possibility is putting a fm transmitter on the dx while in your car. Walmart even has one for $12.

Yes, using the AUX cable and input on the car would make it louder, no doubt. But at least on my car, I wouldn't be able to hear/use the radio. If I use the AUX input, it kills all other audio sources, unless maybe I use the X for FM/Pandora/etc and Nav, but I don't know if that would work. Anyone tryi it yet?

It works great! I just got back from a 6 hour drive to school yesterday and the Nav system mutes the music only when it is making an announcement. I was using Google Nav and Pandora.

My only problem with it is I hate the Google Nav voice, lol.

Since the Aux input is the source of the sound, you have to use the DX for music and nav which is entirely possible ... and might be better since you have MP3s or Pandora on the DX.

I complained to VZW about the sound issue on my X and they immediately offered to replace it. I said ok. Got the replacement X two days later (yesterday, FedEx) and, yep, you guessed it, same problem. What's amazing to me is that with the backorder situation, I got a new one in 2 days! I also took my X into local VZW today to compare it to Droid 2. Meh, no way Jose'...not even close...the sound on the 2 was no better...I wasn't impressed at all with the Droid 2 even with it running 2.2.

I have to make a trip next Saturday and will definately be following these tips.

I tried the DX navigation out using the Aux imput in my car. It was plenty loud that way, but alas, I won't be using it.

I've gone back to my regular windshield attached GPS for now. Hopefully the upcoming "fix" will make it loud enough.

I need that Aux imput for my Sirius Satellite Radio. Can't live without Howard Stern and E-Street Radio! :D

thats crazy, I had the orig droid and the sound was awesome, very loud! I was impressed....then I got the X and when I put it on speaker I can barely hear the person speaking, and the ringtones are vey low also....I thought the 2 would be better but I guess not.... hopefully they do release an update, I just wish it had the same volume as my orig droid.

I'm 71 years old and don't have perfect hearing though I hear very well. I have to say that my X has excellent/loud volume. Sorry for y'all and I do hope an update fixes the low volume issue for y'all.

Just saying it's not a problem for every X.

Maybe not for every X, but it seems it is a problem for about 99% of them.

I just updated the software on my Jawbone Icon bluetooth headset, and now Nav DOES come via bluetooth to my headset! So it works with a A2DP headset now (the update turned the icon into a A2DP headset) which doesn't cover all headsets but at least it's a start.

If, by chance, you have the ICON, go to the Aliph website, log into "my talk" and grab the latest update and the grab the A2DP software. Can stream music and podcasts as well - fine for the podcasts but a bit crummy for music since it is obviously mono...

My car is a 2005 and it doesn't have an AUX input. I use a Jabra SP700 which allows me to route calls through the cars FM stereo system which works wonderfully. Now with the GPS on my Droid X it also routes the voice directions throught the cars stereo and because of that the volume can be set as loud as you like. When a call comes in when using the GPS it takes the call (which also is routed throught the cars radio) and when the call is over, the Droid X automatically returns to GPS. Since this is my first phone with GPS, I think it's pretty cool.

On the X's volume, it does seam not quite as loud as other phones I've had. I have heard Motorola is working on an seperate update (not to be confused with the Android 2.2 update) and will be pushed out seperate from 2.2. But no date was given for this update.

The Droid X is by far the best phone I've ever had.

I posted this over at the motorola forums and I suggest everyone (and I know there are many X users who suffer the same issue) get over there and voice their opinions.

No offense to Matt and not to undermine his word here, but we need confirmation from Motorola directly that there is an issue with this and that this issue is indeed being fixed asap. I don't care who from Motorola makes this statement, but I would like an official statement posted so I'm not left hanging out to dry. If VZW and Motorola are denying this when contacted, we have a problem Houston.......

Matt being the forums manager. He stated that they (motorola) have acknowledged the issue and confirmed a fix is on the way. Users continue to contact both Motorola and VZW and there continues to be reports of both denying the problem exists. We don't know if VZW is aware of the problem, but a recording made by one of the moto forums members through a tech support call explicitly states that they are indeed aware of this issue.

However, there has been no official word posted by Motorola, nor any acknowledgement to fix the issue. nor a time frame to do so.

I know many of you are past you 30 days, but there are many more still who aren't. Please make your voice heard if you have this issue with your X.

I need Howard Stern for the car rides as well. I don't want him to retire, but it seems he's just coasting from last year to the end of his contract. Today he was talking about more retirement. I doubt he'll be back which really sucks. If he does return, it'll probably be 3 days/week for a few hours which is better than nothing ... but really I can make it through a commute and work where the show will cover 6 hours of that.. and the other 3 or so hours I have to work, I can just go over to the sports stations. sorry for the rant lol

So why don't you believe him? He works for Motorola and says it will be fixed. Really, what else could you ask for? :)

Believe someone with a title of forums manager that a very important issue will be fixed? You're kidding right? I do not see an official document posted by moto or vzw regarding this, do you?
