Dear Keith,

Thank you for contacting LG Electronics.

The change description includes

New factory reset method (power + volume down fo
r 10 seconds)
Desk Top Cradle (DTC) feature enabled
Google patch

The carrier feels that when a bootloader is not encr
ypted and users can unlock it they are more likely t
o alter the system software and damage the phone
thus unable to provide support to users that do so.

Keep in mind we manufacture the hardware to meet
the specifications of the distributor *carrier.

If you have other questions or concerns, please do
not hesitate to contact us again either via email, or
by calling our customer service division at 800-243

Thats whats new

I got the error message so I just updated with the update tool. It took 42 minutes and I stared at the screen the whole time cause I had nothing better to do.

 really?
I would have listened to Pandora, watch some videos, etc. ;)

Well actually that's my advice of what you should have done.
The real me would have:
Find firmware for 5 devices,
Post 100 posts,
Make 2 unbrick guides
Move 10 threads,
And have a mountain dew

That's true, I was about to get on af but the download was going slow so I didn't want to make it worse by loading more stuff. :p

Glad I read this. I was about to update. Oddly I was able to download the update ota with no errors. Now the phone is annoying me to update it.

I believe only the PC update removes root while OTA leaves it. Someone else said he still had root after updating via OTA.

I tried OTA and received the "Root Error", used unbricked guide back to d (lost root) and did the USB update with no problem at all.

Question I have is that I was under the impression that I would loose all my stuff. I didn't loose squat. Re-rooted and back to normal!!

Why didn't you just flash E via PC? would have taken less time...unless you already have D downloaded?

Until I hear of a definite 100% requirement for updating, and 100% of the update contents, consequences, and a clear understanding as to why some people are losing root while others are not... I will not update.

Sadly, I already know one thing-- it's NOT an update to JB.

I'll do some testing on what causes what. There's a ton of things to be found out on this phone.

If you lose root then reroot simple as that.

im really a Novice at all this.......I assume OTA means over the air via thru the phone upgrade...that failed due to root I guess...

I have c and d saved as kdz, so I just unbricked d (to remove root I guess) then used LG upgrade tool thru usb to get e....

only took me 15 minutes tops (guess due to fast DL speeds and ssd drives lol)

I guess all in all I assumed that if I flashed E without removing root it would error so I just removed it first, re-rooted and didn't loose anything. Which brings me back to the first question...it plainly states on the page that you will loose everything if you do it with LG tool and I didnt loose didly.

Yes, it says that, I don't know why, but it did didly with losing stuff (besides root)
