So I did some digging around and found a way to get the update installed (even after lag fix, Odin, etc.) I was having the same problem as you all (it would get to 50%, then fail).
Found this here (CapFaq.com):
How do I get the update?
The update is being gradually pushed out to phones over the air (OTA). You will receive a notification on your phone that there's an update available. Keep in mind the update is about 12MB and so it will take a while to download.
It is also possible to use the new "Kies Mini" tool to update your phone. This method is worth trying if you're having trouble updating over the air. You can download Kies Mini here. Notes for using Kies Mini:
Your phone must be using Touchwiz. If you're using LauncherPro, ADW or some other launcher, set the default back to "twlauncher" temporarily for the purpose of updating. You can always set it back. Home Switcher makes this easy.
Your USB must be set to "Debug mode". Menu -> Settings -> Application -> Development -> USB Debugging
Using Kies Mini (and after uninstalling the lag fix), I was able to get the update.
