Help update failure

Hey guys I'm new to the optimus v I got it yesterday and I have an update pending in the s/v menu when I click update it brings mw to a recovery menu acts like it is updating but then fails and says something about the update not being signed anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

What kind of update? Have you rooted your phone?

Not sure what the update is just says there is one and I'm not rooted
