update froyo 2.2 for orange htc desire

I've written a batch script based around this: [tool] FOTA fetcher - xda-developers

It is checking HTC's servers every minute to see if the upgrade from 1.15.61.10 is available, and if it is it will email me.

The script works fine if I put in the 1.22.61.1 version and correctly finds the 2.2 update (in fact I have downloaded it to my PC just in case!).

So once an update from 1.15.61.10 to 1.22.61.1 is available I should know within a minute of it happening, and will post back here.

Note if you look at the script nothing in terms of serial numbers or dates or anything is sent to HTC - it just asks is a newer version than this one available, and the server replies with the location of the file if there is.

It's people like you that make this technological world we live in so much better. Thank you kind Sir.

Thanks dude, i am waiting for this update too. :)

Will i have to check for updates on the phone as normal when it comes out (settings > about phone > software updates > check now) or will i have to download it to my pc first then transfer it?

Cheers

In relation to the post on the Orange website I phoned them and asked them about it and finally got through to someone worth talking to. He said that the update was already avaiable according to their tech guys I told them that it evidentally wasnt. He said try downloading direct from HTC, I told him this wasnt an option the only download from HTC was the Sync software he agreed. He then put me on hold while he phoned HTC, HTC told him that they have no idea where Orange have got their info with regards to having an update available for 1.22, because all users should be able to upgrade to Froyo directly, but because of the problems people were having they would make the upgrade avaiable but this could take up to two weeks to roll out from HTC. Then no doubt it will take further time for Orange to load it with their pap before you can upgrade to Froyo.

HAPPY DAYS

Just to add my bit to the 1.22 information, trying to install FroYo from 1.15 without the 1.22 update left my phone almost dead. Basically I de-branded, then did a manual update (from 1.5) and was offered 2.2 which went through the whole installation but left the phone pretty much bricked - no WiFi, g, 3g, H nothing. I then managed to force the re-installation of 1.15 after a few attempts but when I repeated the update process I got offered 1.22 this time. Having installed that I was then offered FroYo which went on and worked fine. My late night battle to install FroYo was detailed "live" here http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/140751-froyo-update-now-phone-not-working-please-help.html .

I don't get this whole 1.15 to 1.22 thing. I think it's a bit of a red herring to be fair.

I recieved my Orange Black Desire on the 6th September. I then recieved the 2.2 update on the 21st or 22nd.

My missus got her phone on the 27th July, it too is Orange branded and has been updated to 1.22. This happened on August 18th. She too, still has not received the update.

We have absolutely no idea why I have got mine.... I'm pretty confident that it has F**k all to do with 1.22.

I haven't managed to get 1.22 so far and "early nexy week" has gone, I knew Orange would screw it up. They sure know how to play with their customers. Blaming htc isn't gonna work, they released the 1.22 update and only Orange ignored it, now they haven't a clue what to do, however I hope they sort it out soon enough.

Something tells me this gonna drag on and once the desire hd is released, Orange will brush aside the Desire and leave us with 2.1. Since they've screwed this up I don't think they gonna spend any time sorting it out. If they can't sort this out how about giving those of us stuck on 2.1 a new Desire HD

You don't say what version you were running before your FroYo upgrade Vicdude, nor how this "whole 1.15 to 1.22 thing" constitutes a red herring. As I previously mentioned, my upgrade from 1.15 directly to 2.2 temporarily bricked my Desire. When I went back, re-installed 1.15 and upgraded from that to 1.22 and then to 2.2, everything worked fine. After an hour or two of wondering whether my phone was a write off before finding that solution it certainly felt real to me.

i checked my settings and mine says software number 1.15.61.10, it says firmware version 2.1-update 1, im confused as to what i actually am

So much for that 'early next week' from Orange for that 1.2 update. I am going to wait 2 weeks and then I think its time to debrand. Because you know this Shit is going to happen again and again.

I'm debranding tonight I think. I don't mind waiting, I just don't appreciate being lied to. The sad thing is that Orange are not the ones who lose out from me debranding due to me voiding my warranty. Sh*t's just not right.

Ok I've been patient enough

I'm pissed off with Orange for blatant lying!

Early next week my arse.

I'll be debranding this weekend...

Where the fook is Connor from Twitter all of a sudden....!

Next time 02 without a doubt

The stupid thing is Orange must pay programmers / dev teams to work on the crap that they put onto phones in the hope that one day someone, anyone!, will actually use their App Store, Orange Maps or upgrade one of the awful games.

By annoying everyone with regard to the Froyo upgrade a lot of customers have, or like myself, are planning to, de-brand and get Froyo now sans the Orange junk.

So Orange are wasting money on dev teams whose apps none of us want and very soon, very few of us will have.

this is what is on the orange web site about the htc desire update
Software update for the HTC desire (Android 2.2)

How to get it

If you are running software version number 1.22.61.1 then you already can update your device to Android 2.2 (2.17.61.2).
Your phone should automatically search for software updates, but if it hasn’t, you can manually download this update as follows: From homescreen – Menu Key > Settings > About phone > System software updates > Check now. The update might not appear straight away due to the amount of traffic on HTC’s servers.
If you are running software version number 1.15.61.10 then HTC has recently advised us you will first need to update your devices to 1.22.61.1.
HTC will be making the 1.22.61.1 update available early next week. Once you have updated to 1.22.61.1, you can then update to 2.17.61.2 via the method described above. To check to see which software version your device is running. From homescreen – Menu Key > Settings > Software information. The number you require is listed as the fifth entry and is labelled “Software number”.
We highly recommend you update your software over a WiFi connection.
sorry if its been posted before thought it was intresting anyway

It's available people! The update to 1.51 etc before the froyo update! I just pressed check now for about the 40000 time this week and AT LAST Orange have released the update before the update lol mind you, went to install and phone said battery to low, charge 1st! However it is all downloaded and ready to go! No voiding of warranty I just hope the wait is worth it!
