Update question

I am reading about all these people talking about fancy new updates. I downloaded the leak of Froyo when it first came out. I am running 2.2 version 2.3.9.MB810 (whatever that means). How far behind am I? How do I catch up? Thanks

Anybody correct me if I am wrong...

But I think that you need to SBF back to 2.3.15 and then you can either get the OTA update or find the update.zip to upgrade you to 2.3.34.

Motorola said that anyone who used the leaked upgrade to 2.3.9 would not receive the OTA upgrade.

I guess my next question is, Is it worth it? If so, how would a complete Noobie do this? Thanks for the help.

actually if they are on 2.3.9 they can SBF back to 2.1 and take the OTA to 2.2 (2.3.15) then take the next OTA to 2.2.1 (2.3.340) I BELIEVE (I could be wrong though) that they can also use the 2.3.15 SBF to get to 2.2 then take the OTA to 2.2.1

That made my head hurt

I think that in the long run it would be easier to SBF to 2.2 (2.3.15) and then take the OTA update to 2.2.1 (2.3.34). Correct?

hahaha sorry. ok if it was me, personally, I would use the SBF file for 2.1. once you are back up and running, check for updates and it should download the update to the official 2.2 (build number 2.3.15) once you have that installed you can check for upgrades again and it should download the official 2.2.1 (build number 2.3.340) which is the most current out there. again, this is just what I would do....

also, if you were/are rooted, once you get onto the newest system version (2.3.340) you can reroot your phone using z4root and I would make a backup right away before you change anything. If you were never rooted then disregard anything I said about root lol

yeah if the SBF for 2.3.15 would work from 2.3.9 you could do this, but Im thinking for some reason that some people were having issues with the bootloader numbers by going this path (I could be wrong though, I didnt take that path so IDK, I just kept using sbf's and taking the OTA's)

is the way to do it? I'm sorry for all the basic questions. I just dont want to mess up anything

I think that the bootloader for 2.3.9 was 30.01 and that would be fine, might have to wipe data/cache. Your way is the more conservative way and the safest for a person with little to no experience.

I would agree that this is the better choice for Nick.

those files and that post is for the 2.3.15 sbf. so yeah you could go that route i think. like I said, I never used the 2.3.15 SBF to UPGRADE from 2.3.9 to 2.3.15 so IDK how well that works. Maybe someone who did do this can chime in?
what I did from 2.3.9 was to flash the SBF for 2.1 (what the phone came with) then take all the OTA upgrades

Same site that ECFfighter7232 used just different page. Go here:

Droid X

And follow the directions starting at (about half way down the page): Return your DroidX to stock unrooted 2.1:

if you get stuck during the process dont freak too much lol. were all here to try to help. and if you need help with a walk through let us know

Don't rush through anything. I read through many, many posts before I took the plunge and did any rooting and using RSD Lite/SBF.

These were the old instructions that I dug up.... now IDK if they are still packaging all that stuff into the gift.zip anymore, but if you unzip it and find an RSD program with a file that ends in .ini and the SBF file then these instructions should work for you

Step 1: Download the the_gift.zip File

Step 2: Extract "the_gift" and open/install the appropriate drivers (32/64 bit).

Step 3: Extract and Install RSD Lite.

Step 4: Move/Replace the pst_flash.ini file to "C:\Program Files\RSD".

Step 5: Extract the remaining zipped folders.

Step 6: Open RSD Lite.

Step 7: Browse (...) to the .sbf File and select it.

Step 8: Open "Bootloader" mode on your phone.
- Hold the Camera, Vol. Down, and Power buttons.

Step 9: Plug your phone into your computer.

Step 10: Select your Phone from the list and select "Start".

Step 11: Power off the Phone. Hold Power + Home Keys.

Step 12: Scroll to select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" (this will not affect SD cards).

Step 13: Boot up your phone and you're done.
