it seems like sprint will be pushing an ota to the evo 3d on feb 21 and chances are, we are getting the same at virgin mobile... ota includes minor fixes but its nice to see updates keep coming to our phone... update also includes a connection boost which is good news for every1...

Enhancements
Sprint Connection Optimizer

Fixes
AVI Files unable to stream or play via DLNA
Launching Messaging app loading time

you can get more info at ap...

other info is also available at sprint...

Aww but no Jelly Beanz ;)

That's still good to know though. (Although I for one haven't noticed the messaging app taking a long time to load...)

wtf !! :D i did not expect this ! hopefully devs will jump on that and make it into a zip since a lot of people here r rooted, on custom roms and cannot accept ota

So anyone who doesn't want to wait, needs to lock the bootloader, run the RUU, accept the OTA, unlock bootloader again, then flash ROM? Is that it?

This would mean reconfiguring any existing ROMs instead of restoring a NAND right?

Also, does this sort of update affect the ROM partition, or is it more of a flash to the "behind the scenes" parts of the phone that regardless of the ROM, will persist even with a wipe?

So in other words, if I revert back to stock to take the update, will flashing a ROM erase whatever this update adds? Do I need to wait for the ROM developer to incorporate this into their ROM?

It really depends what the update brings.

I'd have to look at the files, but my GUESS is if its a few libs and system files...those would have to be incorporated into ROM updates, else you'll lose it.

It just really depends on what the update holds. We'll see in a few days.

Why is that?
Because they don't want to lose their data connection temporarily when in the proximity of places like Starbucks that have "remembered" WiFi network information if they are not planning to stay in that location. Some users say it causes additional battery drain monitoring for the availability of WiFi networks as well. Juice Defender and other utilities do pretty much the same thing so there's no need to use it with those apps installed.

You can find more information about it here.

Ramjet, I don't know if it is exactly what you are predicting, but my feeling is this late in the game there will not be any real improvements. Yes, we might see something to help manage network congestion.

I agree. The Sprint Network "Optimizer" is pretty much a euphemism for a way to move some of the 3G network load to off-network WiFi connections, and if you look at the end of the Q&A FAQ linked in my last post they actually refer to it as the "WiFi offload" feature. Sprint and VM are probably getting killed with 3G demand now that a lot of their users have LTE phones with no network in place to support them for many of their service areas. :(

My opinion is that this update will be really minor, only affecting a couple of apps and system settings with no firmware or other major impact on the existing configurations, but we need someone to actually get the update before we can confirm or deny that.

Let's not get too excited here. This is a nice device with a lot of developer support, but it is getting close to EOL, so I don't expect too much form the carriers.

would we have to do anything to avoid taking the update on that date, like would there be a promt that we would have to ignore?

Yes, you would see a message asking if you wanted to download the update or wait till later. :p

They are upgrading us to ios :-D

Haha, took a good laugh from that one. Maybe it will be a 4g upgrade to LTE as well.

In all seriousness though, how do we even know we will get this nice little OTA just because the Sprint Evo is getting it? Have all our past OTAs been right while Sprint's Evo OTAs came out?

I for one am hoping for that slow start fix on messenger app, I often get graphical hiccups on it opening it up on my contacts pictures and it does seem to freeze momentarily and then it 'corrects' itself to normal pictures and everything. So I am trying not to get too thrilled about this for the time being because that actually would help make my day to know we'd get it too:D
