UPDATE Your G1 manually

Installs fine using the same method as the RC29 update. Is it safe to delete the update.zip from your SD card once you're updated?
 
Just tried to update mine and got this error message anyone got any idea ? Have tried it a couple of times with RC29 and RC30

Mine worked fine with the RC30 link posted above.

Followed all of the steps in the first post with the file name "Update.zip" on my AData 8GB MicroSD card. Verified version number in settings just now.
 
Thanks for link, I dont know what to do now? do i download it to my pc then G1? I pluged my G1 in to my pc and i cant open it at all.
 
Or, seriouse question.
What exactly this update do with 'jailbreack'? How does it works after it? Can you still run telnetd, can you connect to it? How does it 'close' that hole? Do you really can not get root access after that?
Is this a wrong thread to ask these questions? :)

1. Download the RC30 update: https://android.clients.google.com/updates/signed-RC30-from-RC29-fat.1582cace.zip
2. Copy this downloaded file to your microsd card and rename it update.zip
3. Power off the phone.
4. Hold down the "Home" key + "red phone key" (power key) at the same time until a triangle with an exclamation point comes up
5. Hit Alt+L, you should see menu with choices to reset the phone etc.
6. Then hit Alt+S
7. It should start the update process and eventually reboot
8. If it gives you an error, try to re-copy the update file or try a different microsd card.

I get an error that reads

Any ideas?

Also when i start the system recovery utility it says at the top E:cant open /cache/recovery/command could that be the problem?
 
I get the same message fallen, i have tried 29 too and get a error too. Let me know how you got on please ???
 
if u get an error message that says it cant find the update or something like that....just rename the file to update instead of update.zip ....worked like a charm for me. try it!
 
Yeah i have tried that.

I think my problem is all the updates i have downloaded are specific to the version you have.

RC19-RC29
RC28-RC29
RC29-RC30
etc etc

Im on RC7 and i havent found an upgrade for that yet. Has anyone else?
