UPDATE Your G1 manually

Outside of phones that never were released (I'm looking at you Agora) I don't think Android has been released by a carrier in Australia yet so the package you seek might not be around.
 
Optus in australia released the g1 and called it the htc dream

It isn't available to buy outright and it has a crappy plan attached to it so i got one from US
 
Hey guys, I've just downgraded the firmware to TC5-RC7 and tried doing the enter enter type "telnetd" and enter bit, but when I go in to terminal, it's still showing the dollar sign. :confused:

its a UK phone tho, thinking this is the reason its not working?
 
So I am resetting my phone back to normal so I can send it in to Tmo and get my new one. The current is crackling in the earpeice...anyway here we go
 
LAME its not working, and I wiped my phone so its just basically has nothing on it like its straight out of the box but it still has the JF on it. I need to get this thing back to normal ie not rooted before i send it back in....some one help!

Did you start with the Format with FAT32 which wipes evrything ... then flashing the Dreaning RC29 ... ?

Just the same procedure as you did to start to root ... Follow the procedure and then once RC29 is installed ... go into setting and do the Check for Updates ...
 
this might be a dumb question guys but here goes i have jf 2.6.25 kila user 1.1 plat-rc33 126986 can i updat to 1.5 cupcake manually now?

if you rooted your phone you can update to cupcake the same way with an update.zip file.... just d/l the version you want and rename it to update.zip reboot home+end then alt+s and install you can d/l it here Cupcake Downloads

thankyou for your advice and quick response i was wonder what the variants in the versions are can you recomend one or should i just get the highest version

All are good but I prefer Haykuro builds.. if you want all the bells and whistles then go with the dude's but I just add the stuff in later so either way... Everything on that page except the HTC legit build I have run on my phone all are stable and work great... So all I can say is try a few see what works for you........

Same as the first time you rooted rename your d/l to update.zip no mater what the file name was when you d/led it.... if your still unsure at the bottom of the page in the footer is a link to a rooting guide by Devolio that 'll give you step by step instructions......
 
ok and if doesnt boot then waht are my opions i can still get to the updat menu i can just load a jf filmware on there right its not bricked?

definitely not bricked yes you can revert... Before you go back to JF's RC33 I would reboot into the recovery again do an alt+w and then an alt+s again should work and be patient as it does take up to 5 minutes to boot first time after install all those builds work perfectly I promise...
 
Ok ok check it I got it to work but now my service blinks in and out and this crazy music plays in the backround all the time

the crazy music is your notification tones... just reset those.... don't know what you mean by "your service blinks in and out"

Hell, I enjoy the Notifications sound ... the first time after flash & reboot I thought something was hungup ... thenfigured it out :)

Firstly, I want to say thanks...I am a total noob but I have learnt so much from this forum and XDA over the last few days and I've now rooted my G1 and I'm running Hard SPL with JF RC9.

I have a dumb question but couldn't see the answer anywhere... can I apply Haykuro's cupcake builds in the usual way even though I have a UK phone?

Yes you can apply it however the US and UK versions are different... best to ask some more UK people for info on that one.......
 
Thanks. I opted for JF's 1.5 ADP build in the end and everything is looking sweet... so far I haven't noticed anything that seems incompatible for a UK phone.
