Root Update.zip?

What should I do about the update.zip file used to root if I need to place a different update.zip file there for other purposes? Will I lose root access if I delete or overwrite the update.zip file used for gaining root. Thanks in advance.

once your phone is rooted you can delete the update.zip

Thank you. I wasn't sure what would happen when I re install new updates.
