Anything else you guys need or any suggestions?

I followed some advice from another forum and I checked off the "use packet data" and "data roaming" boxes in the wireless settings>mobile network settings menu and the 3G icon is now up and my 3G works...but does this mean my phone is roaming? I don't want to incur a bunch of unexpected charges...

You could probably uncheck data roaming and it would work fine. The "Use packet data" means to enable use use of data on your phone.

2.2 hasn't been released for the Captivate.

You flashed a ROM that was either not meant for your phone, or has bugs. All 2.2 ROMs being passed around for the Captivate have issues, some more than others.

If the files weren't set up for the Captivate then you might be missing frequencies, which can result in no 3G and therefore horrible data speeds.

It's best to stick with stock ROMs unless you've done your research, know what you're doing, and are willing to accept the risks. Flashing in hacked ROMs is not a task for people who just want a perfectly working phone with little effort. Something always tends to break.

You must have "use packet data" checked ... you can uncheck the "data roaming" unless of course you are in a non-at&t service area. Mine stays unchecked.

I have been running that ROM on my captivate for a couple of months now and have had very good luck with it. I have really enjoyed it.
