Root Updates when root

I managed to root my TMo Nexus S when I first got in Dec 2010 mostly to replace most of the system/media files with my own. OTA updates won't install. When the phone is rooted do I need to install a newer rooted image to keep the phone current ? If so where do I get the latest image to update my Nexus S and keep it rooted and what version is it >

Well you see ,if you have a custom ROM you will have to install the updates manually ,no biggie ...as for the official updates from gugle ...i can't find them on the web ,maybe because of the 4 versions of the NS.
