Are these phones ever going to get an update? There was talk of 2.3 but I never received anything. Boost customers get updates regularly. I'm getting sick of the lack of support from VM.

rooting is simple... go nline and google gingerbreak.apk

you will see an XDA link click it scroll to the bottom tap the gingerbreak file install it open it tap root wait
when its rebooterd your rooted

OK, what I'm worried about here is, what all will I lose if I do this quick root? I have some important things on my phone. Will I have to resync Facebook, among other things?

If you just root you will not lose anything. But if you go all the way and put a new ROM on it then you will start all over.

Unless you use a backup program like Titanium Backup or Root uninstaller among others. They will backup the .apk as well as data so when you install your ROM you can restore the apps and it will be like it was before the ROM installation.

There is always the chance of a corrupt file screwing up the rooting process, so even though it is not required I will always recommend a factory reset before rooting. A factory reset ensures that you have fresh system files to work with.

This of course is my own personal preference so YMMV.
