Root Updating a rom

I have a triumph that is flashed with the 02-02 version of CM7. I would like to flash to CM9. How do I excactly do that?? Do I do it the same way as I installed CM7?? I am still relatively new to the flashing rom thing. Any feedback would be helpful.

Also, anytime I open up a forum, I get this radioshack ad that is on the bottom of my screen everytime. I keep closing it but everytime I go to a new page, it comes back (this is on my pc), does anyone know how to get rid of it, thanks.

You have to do a full wipe, then falsh cm9, then flash gapps that are for ICS.

As for the ads if your using chrome or firefox there are ad blocking ad-ons. It's worse on a phone though as the ad is near impossible to close.

Edit: also one thing. Doing a full wipe, deletes all your apps and data, so make a nandroid if you want to keep anything, then use appextractor to restore, or if they are apps, just reinstall from the market unless you want data too, in which case use appextractor.

Do I use the gapps file specifically for 4.0?? I have the older version that I used for CM7. That wont work?? I went to the CM9 thread and I see the gapps file, I take it that is different then the one I currently have?? Also, when I flashed gapps, I also did the file for googletalk, which I dont see on the CM9 thread. Can I use the same google talk file as I did for CM7? Also, for gapps, do I unzip the file before moving it to sd card?? Thanks.

I backed up all my apps with titaminum backup pro. Can I just use this ap to restore al my apps plus data once I flashed CM9?? And also, on the labtop, Im using IE, but that radio shack ad just comes up when I refresh or go to another thread inside the forum, outside the forum, it doesnt do it, any ideas??

I wouldn't use gtalk I don't know if that version is compatible or not. Yes use the gapps that's in the thread, it's made specifically for ICS so it is a bit different. Leave it zipped and flash it the same way that you flash any other roms, except don't do a wipe again. Just wipe once, then flash the rom, then right after flash gapps.

I wouldn't recommend using titanium backup to restore apps between different ROMs. It tends to cause issues when restoring apps/data (especially data) between different ROMs. I would recommend downloading everything from the market again. After that get them set up how you want, and then back them up with TiBu.

I have a couple apps that I really dont want to lose data for, can I back them upwith tibu, and restore them with data on CM9??

Download Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. They're both free and both have ad blockers. I never use IE so I don't know how the ad situation is. I just know it's bloated and not very good.

Edit: if you made a nandroid backup just get appextractor and restore the apps with data that you want.

You can try, but it may cause issues. If you do that, please do not report any bugs as they are probably caused from that and not the ROM.

Would there be any difference in backing up and restoring these two apps from titaminum backup vs tibu??

Now, when I do a nandroid backup on my current rom, cm7, what all does it make a back up of, apps too??

Yes, it makes a full backup image of everything. Every app, contact, text, setting, everything.

Edit: also make sure you have at least 2GB of free space on your sdcard, just to make sure you don't run out of space. Usually they aren't that big, but better to be safe than sorry and they can get pretty big.

I just thought of something, you said the data sometimes causes issues going across different roms right?? if I just restored the just the apps on the rest do you think it would cause issues??

Just download the apps again from the market. Sometimes Titanium Backup doesn't work that great. If you really need to use appextractor all though that may have the same problem as Tibu, except its pulling it directly from the backup.

One more question, sorry, but thanks for answering all my questions. Once I make a nandroid backup, I should be able to move it to my labtop and save it there without any problems, right??

Correct, just if you want to restore it you have to put it back in the clockworkmod folder where it saves it. So easiest way would just to move the clockworkmod folder off of your sdcard to your computer and then if you want to restore move it back.

Thanks guys for your answers, I will keep my fingers crossed, last time I ventured this way I had to end up replacing my phone because it wouldnt turn on after trying to go back to stock.

I just done doing a nandroid backup, just before it finished, it said no sd-ext found. Is that a big deal??
