Updating apps from Android Market (Google Play)

I don't know if anyone else has posted this, but downloading apps from the Market burns data. I wasn't sure so I ran a test. I checked my data usage (I'm on a T-Mobile 200MB plan), updated the Opera browser, then checked data usage again. Sure enough, data usage was up by the size of the download. So if you are on a limited data plan, connect to a wireless network to update your apps.

(Unless on Sprint's proxy plan) Market ("play") downloads/updating most certainly is better done via wifi; it is streaming data after all. ;)

^ This is the one of the 'few' reasons why I won't leave Sprint. :)

Yup, uploading to Youtube and downloading from "Play" does count against your data. Rush, I just might be joining you (hope Sprint hold out and keep their unlimited).

I just got off the phone with AT&T. I must admit, it was a very pleasant result for an 'unpleasant call'. Just got bill which was $59 overcharges. Found some were due to apps that charged subscriptions and others were certain charges needing reversed off the bill itself.

ATT was kind enough to actually cancel the subscrip charges and remove the other unaccountable or mischarges and got the $59 removed.

I left the call feeling good. but beware of downloaded apps that are 'live" or charge extra when its connected to your data while playing or using such apps.

200mb data plan? I use that much in like a day or two @_@. Get a bigger one. Opera Mobile is like 15mb in size.
Had unlimited, but was only using around 100-125MB. Dropped to 200MB data and add unlimited texting - no change in cost.

But you wouldn't have been worrying about this if you had something a bit bigger, like a 1GB plan or the like. Agree we have differing uses, with me needing more data than you do, but with 200MB you'll have to turn off automatic updating for your apps. Otherwise you might wake up one morning to find your data all used up.

No worries, mate. I've never turned auto updating on.

Ive got unlimited also and glad I do. Im also constantly linked to wi-fi. And like you, I turn auto update off plus selected update/download with wi-fi only so to avoid using my "limited unlimited" (punintended as a smack in my face only) :D

Plus I like to control when I want to accept an update and not have the "market" eat through my data with constantly connecting and downloading.
