Updating apps???

thamac

Newbie
I have tried updating 2 apps (instagram & zedge) tonight and neither one would complete the d'load. I accept and download then the app shows it is d'loading in the status bar but never finishes.
Any ideas?? Is there any settings on the phone that would prevent/block the d'load?? :(

I do not believe that there is a setting that would prevent your downloads from completing. It is probably more like a problem with the data connection, either because the area you are in is remote, or the carrier's network is having problems, which they sometimes do.
It also happens if for some reason your carrier is throttling your data usage. It could be that you will try it tomorrow, and it will download without a hitch.

I kinda figured it may be a network problem...the 4G signal is pretty good here. I did notice there is a setting in the app store that only allows updates over wi-fi but it is unchecked on my phone.
I'll have to wait until I get home from work and try updating over wi-fi I guess.

One or two other things to try:

- from home, menu->settings->applications->manage applications. Find "Google Play Store" and tap it. Try tapping "clear cache" and go back to the Play Store to see if that helps. If it does not, try going into the same place and "clear data".

I went home this morning and was able to update my apps over wi-fi. I still can not update or download new apps over 4G. I am getting a message saying "Download size requires wi-fi" no matter what size file I try and d'load.
I did clear the cache and data but still the same. I also assured the "update over wi-fi only" box is unchecked in the apps settings?

Any ideas:dontknow:

go to menu> settings> battery and data manager> data saver and make sure it's unchecked.

Ahah...yep I just figured that out and was coming back to report. Sure enough the ol data saver was turned on. :hmmmm2::pound:

Thanks for all the help

To add - It would have been nice if the error message would have told me the data saver was on instead of "d'load size requires wi-fi" ya know :o

I believe that the issue is that Google Play Store is a Google product that isn't aware that Motorola has customized Android so that it has a setting called "data saver"; it can't tell you a reason that it doesn't know exists.
