Root Updating DHD Software unroot first?

Hi Guys,

I currently have android 2.2 on my phone, however i have had a notification saying "System update is available" for the last 2months. I'm assuming it's the update for 2.3.

However before i update it i have a few questions,

Currently my phone's android 2.2 is perma rooted with visionary

1. Do I need to unroot it before i update it?

2. Can android 2.3 be rooted on the desire hd with visionary?

afraid i will brick the phone

thanks for the assistance!

Yes, apparently it's a good idea to unroot before doing the upgrade. However, you won't be able to get root access in 2.3 unless you get radio s-off whilst running 2.2. If you do this, you'll also need to use gingerbreak in stead of visionary.

thanks for the prompt response Xyro, what is radio s-off? do you have a link to a good set of instructions? so i need to get this before i upgrade right? good thing i checked b4 jumping into the deep end.

S-Off/On refers to whether or not your phone requires files to be signed by HTC to be flashed to the phone's internal memory. So without it, you cannot run custom firmware, which is unsigned and you cannot use gignerbreak. Unfortunately, the s-off exploit only works on 2.2 firmware.

Just follow this guide: [TOOL][VIDEO] One click Radio S-OFF, SimUnlock (Easy Root & S-OFF Guide) - xda-developers

To clarrify, you definitely can't perma root gingerbread without s-off. You might be able to temp-root gingerbread without it, but I'm not 100% sure of hat.
