Help updating firmware with Kies problem?

Loaded Kies and it told me new firmware was available.

Backed up as recomended and read the bit about not unpluging or playing with buttons.

After a few minutes a warning box came up, full of Japanese (I think) text with an accept button which I did.

Few seconds later my phone showed a picture of a green android with "Downloading, do not turn off target.

It is now over 30 minutes later and the green man is still there downloading !!!

1 hour later I ignored the warning and turned the phone off and it started up without a problem, but I have no idea if it has updated the firmware?

Bout phone tells me the following;

Model - GT-19100
Android Version 2.3.3
Baseband version - 19100XXDH
Kernal Version - 2.6.35.7-19100XWKDD-CL161513 root@DELL103#2
Build No Gingerbread.XWKDD

Any ideas please? I see that others are upgrading to XE7 but how do I find out if I am already on KE7 please?

I've exactly the same problem. Have you found a solutions to urs yet?
Yes,

After 1 hour of the green man and downloading message, I ignored the warning and turned the phone off. It started up without a problem, so I went back to KIES and started the upgrade process again, this time it upgraded in just a minute or so.

Hope you sort yours,

Peter

I've gone into the desktop Kies software and I'm not getting any update. It's saying that my firmware is PDA:KE2 / PHONE:KE2 / CSC:KE2 (ORA) with these other details:

Model number: GT-I9100
Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9100BVKE2
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100BVKE2-CL195878
Build number: GINGERBREAD.BVKE2

Any idea why I'm not getting an available update? I'm on the Orange UK network if that matters.

Same thing here only my phone didn't boot. Trying emercency reinstalling (loosely translated from Norwegian :)).

EDIT: Not looking good. :(

EDIT: Solved. I used another computer and Kies updating worked like a charm. Maybe the 64-bit win7 messed up things. I know I had to use the 32-bit pc to root the X10 before so...

The update will only show up on unbranded unlocked devices. Orange has not made this update available.

So if/when Orange does make the update available, will it come through Kies, or do I need an Orange-specific update mechanism?

I can understand now why people go for different firmware, but after having looked at the ROM + guide that someone pointed in another thread recently, I'm running a mile. There's all these different versions offered with no indication on how they differ or suggestions on which to install. I think I'll stick to "official" updates for the moment.
