Help updating firmware?

I've connected to kies and it says a new version is available I press upate I click accept ect and it looks like its updating then when I reconnect to kies it says the same. telling me I have

You have -- (Firmware) PDA:KE7 ..........
The latest -- (Firmware) PDA:KF3 .........

Why wont it update can I fix it or will I have to update it a different way?

My S2 has Android 4.0.4 installed (ICS ?) How can this be updated to the latest version when it is released? I looked in the settings >About phone, but the upgrade item is not there. Does this mean that the upgrade can only be achieved through KIES ? .. If so, I'm stuffed as I have the dreaded USB problem of my phone ID not being recognised by Windows. Has the update settings been squirrelled away elsewhere ?
