Root updating ROM & keeping everything?

I'm using CM7 0521 and I want to update to the latest one, but I don't fill like re-installing everything again...

quick question, if I do a data+apps backup with TiBU (free version) and install the new ROM, can I do a TiBU restore? is the same OS but different MOD, right? should it work?

Make a back up of your current rom, and then flash the latest, but before you reboot go to back up and restore>advanced restore the choose the rom you are on now and then restore the data.img.
