Root Updating ROM

Hi everybody, It's been a while since since i've done anything with my ROM. I'm currently running MeanROM 6.4. Is there anything I should update before trying out a new ROM. Here's some info about my phone.

My phone is s-on
Baseband version: 1.05.11.0606

Build number: 2.13.651. 1

hboot: 1.15

Recovery: TRWP v2.3.1.0

If anyone needs any other specs, just let me know.

Thanks for your help!

yes i would recommend that you get s-off....that way you can try some aosp roms.....which we have a 4.3 JB rom called http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/759448-4-3-beanstalk.html which is my daily as of right now.

to get s-off we now have moonshine to use to get s-off.....i updated the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/605567-ltevo-rooting-dummies-complete-guide.html with moonshine.......check it out.

I agree with the folks above. Use Moonshine to get S-off. It's the easiest method we have.

Your firmware is a little old, you should update that. Going with the Moonshine method requires you to be on the latest update, so you can kill two birds with one stone. :)

Thanks a lot everyone! I did notice that in order to use Moonshine, I should have 3.16.651. What's the easiest way to update my firmware?

Thanks. I tried the zip file from mik's site. I changed the name to "PJ75IMG.zip", added it to my sd folder in the highest folder but my bootloader won't detect the file.

Do you know what would cause this?

well i just noticed that you are s-on....you need to be s-off to use PJ75IMG files......so updating firmware will not work.

I should have mentioned that i used facepalm yesterday installed viper 3.0. I believe i'm s-off now. I checked my bootloader and it says:

"Jewel PVT Ship S-OFF RL"

That does mean I'm s-off, right? Please say yes

s-off is s-off......LOL

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!

now as far as the PJ75IMG file, it sounds like you are not naming it correctly.

does your computer show or hide extensions?

if it hides it then make sure that you are not adding the ".zip" otherwise the phone will see it as PJ75IMG.zip.zip which will not work.

if it shows the extension then make sure that you keep the ".zip" part in the name.

That's what i though But No, my computer doesn't hide extensions. I just double-checked. The name of the file is definitely "PJ75IMG.zip"

I've tried downloading several times and replacing the zipped folder on my sd card with no luck.

you are not extracting it are you? make sure that it stays zipped.

also what size sd card do you have? is it on the root of the sd card?

Nope, I'm definitely not Extracting The Folder.
I Only Have The 8GB CarD That Came With The Phone.

Yes, It's On The Root The Card. It's In The Same Place Where I Put Roms When I Flash Them.

I'm way late here - what LTEvo came with an 8 GB card?? The internal card is just under 10 GB...

And last I checked, I thought that IMG files only worked on external SD cards.

BTW - good idea to update TWRP while you're at it, 2.3.1 is a bit buggy.

Sorry, I meant to say 10GB card and I have no idea whether an IMG file has to be on an external card. Is that why it's not working?

Yeah, I went back and checked, and that's the thing you need -

Bootloader-Flashables (have PJ75IMG in filename)
- MUST be S-OFF to flash this way!
- Rename the file to "PJ75IMG.zip"
- Place on root of (external) SD card
- Boot into HBOOT to flash (bootloader should detect zip automatically and prompt you to flash)
