Help Updating T-Mobile G2 firmware

No - not weird - just not quite getting the software right
On another site I found this:

Thank you. I have advanced my date by an year to 2012. Also enabled automatic update and will wait for a while to see if anything comes up. I have been told that the machine looks for update every 15 days.
Unless somebody comes us with alternative. Will keep you posted.

You should not need to wait 15 days as you've just advanced 365 days. Make sure the clock updates/auto-correct is switched off or your clever phone will correct itself (or in your case perhaps not!)

Yup done, that, it shows 15th march 1012.
In the firmware download, which is in Settings>Security>Firmware download>, I have selected Download automatically.

Haven't seen anything yet.

It worked mate- advancing the date by an year. It first upgraded to new software which had the option of 'software update' and check now option. So I am on
Firmware 2.1 update 1
Build number 3.31..110.1

So thank you so much for all your help. Now I have to see what all new things are there? Is there a satnav on the upgrade?

Glad to be of help - I'm pleased you got there in the end.
Sure sat nav (right down to spoken instructions) but get yourself a car charger - it eats it! Forget animated screen savers though - it can't handle them and they won't work.
Don't forget to update us on the original wifi problem!

Thank you. Actually, it promoted for update in the evening when I was at home but I could not update as I have Talktalk at home. So did the update at work. Will see in the evening, if it recognizes the talktalk wifi or not? What Sat nav do you use?

What SatNav? The one that comes with android 2.1 and google maps.
Less refined than the likes of TomTom but perfectly adequate.
Once you've fully updated, look for the blue arrow thing in the apps (like the one denoting your car on TomTom) and you're away. You can also get directions from google maps and then using menu, hop over to this app. Have a play and you'll see. (I have a subscription on my TomTom for map updates and the google maps are still far more up-to-date that TomTom's).
